[quote="roseandchan"]see i have a problem with this wealth and education thing. take for instance the gypsy people , lots of them cannot read or write. they still manage to have nice things , nice caravans and new merc's . they show off their wealth but have little or no education.[/quote

Sometimes I think it is also generational thing?

The older values of intrinsic self-respect have given way (probably inescapably) to more materialistic values. And, in some ways, quite rightly and naturally so. Living in poverty, no matter how honourably, is miserable and stunting.

But perhaps when people have become used to more than sufficiency, they will see the satisfaction of "enough" rather than "everything," comfort rather than luxury.

I think that in any society age and maturity have an effect on this. Thoise who have reached maturity are confident in their lives and don't need to show off their wealth even though they have it. Those who have strived to earn their wealth may wear furs, diamonds and drive luxurious cars but do so because they can and enjoy them for what they are rather than any status it buys them.
The youth tend to be more crass in their approach and believe that possessions can buy them respect and status but have not realised that it is usually confined to their own circles.
