But your arithmetic does not take into account the units consumed by lighting, the kettle, TV etc and of course, it really depends upon what time of the year you are using your property.

Lana

Lana the figure was based on August last year and May this year, you are right it does not take into account lighting, the kettle, TV etc. However, if you take off 20% for that lot it would equate to .573 euros per day which means poor old tommyb is getting ripped off even more than I calculated, I think my initial statement of "very reasonable bearing in mind the recent increase in the cost of electricity" is wrong and I retract it.

Tommyb must have a real money grabbing Bas**rd as a landlord.

A lot of people make an extra charge for air conditioning…

The problem is that people arrive from the UK and (partly due to the novelty factor of actually having it) set the units to about 15°C and leave them running for the entire two week holiday (even when they are out).

Likewise I’ve seen people rent places during the ‘winter’ months and leave the immersion heater on for the duration of their stay.

If you think the charge is unreasonable you could offer to pay a deposit for the electricity and then take a start and end meter reading and just pay an agreed rate for the units that you use.

Is there not a "key" system available? You buy the key and top it up like a pay as you go phone card?

Offering to pay a deposit for electricity and taking a start and end meter reading and just paying the agreed rate for the units used is by far the best way to deal with the issue and avoids confrontation.

They have something similar in the UK I had them fitted to some flats that I used to rent out. Not sure if they have them in Cyprus though.

In calculating the charge for the A/C you have to take into account the cost of depreciation of the A/C unit and repairs.

Thanks for all your comments. The total cost we are being asked to pay for 14 days is 147 euros.
I did think it was rather a high price to pay. :? :?
