special memories of cyprus

Postby Spartan » Wed May 04, 2005 6:36 pm

thank you for your reply, Brother,

i want to capture that cyprus that exists no longer; perhaps never did...that ideal dreamland that we remember, of driving into the mountains, walking by moonlight in old port or lemesos...i am writing a book; trying to capture that cyrpus before she disapears from our collective memories.

I remember as a child we would drive up into the mountains to have barbacues and while our dads lit up fires and our mothers prepared the tables full of differents mezes we the children would run over to the stream that runs down the mountain to put our drinks in to keep them cold, the smell of pine trees and the fresh air made sure after we had eaten our fill of food we were ready to sleep in its gentle breeze.

This is a genuine fond moment from my child hood that i always remember, since then forest fires have ravaged that area and idiots who i care not to mention through digging at the stream have lost its flow under ground.

where did you see the 15 stories appartment blocks???there are only a few high rise buildings mostly in nicosia(era house with 13 floors and stasinou center with 14 floors, this last one will be ready in 2007)!!as for appartment buildings usually are 3-4 floors. one reason that cyprus has changes is first of all the population of the island......it has increased dramatically since the 1960s..... it was about 660,000 in 1960(whole island),now its 735,000 in the goverment controlled area,if you add the TCs we are probably close to a million......it was inevitable with such a population boom that some things would change..
