She is only 14 but showed great nerve and maturity to win 2 sets to 1. In her post match interview she said that she was really nervous having so many people watch her. Bless.
Let's hope there is a great future in tennis for her.

I'm sure that the few older members who can remember 1966 and watching the new country win the World Cup on our black and white tvs will know there is one and only one measure of English success at sport and that is to win a second world cup and preferably in what little is left of my life here on earth. PLEASE!

Bill i am one of those older members who watched the world cup on t.v....unfortunately since those halcyon days the sport of football has become bollxxxx. those of 66 were sportsmen and ambassadors of the sport....the so called celebrities we have today are not fit to be compared to the greats. and of course what have they won????

I have only ever seen the replay of 'they think it is all over, it is now' and agreed it was a superb moment in British (English even) history
What about Sir Steve Redgrave and his Olympic achievements though? Surely you class him as a true sporstman? Gosh, even the Australians were not too upset when he won gold there!

Now if only the brits could learn how to play cricket, rugby union, rugby league, football, learn how to run, swim, even race horses, they may once again be taken seriously as a sporting nation

Yes of course i agree bubbles, there have been some great sportsmen in other disciplines, it was just football i was referring to...I enjoy all sports where human endeavour is involved, that of course doesnt include footba ll anymore in my estimation. and i cringe when im on holiday and see a person wearing a football shirt - must be the last vestiges of tribalism left...bit like a fiddler crab signalling "im here anymore like me about"? so that fellow fans can bond with them or fight them..whatever.

Forgive me if I am mistaken but I believe you are in Switzerland, yes?
Walk down any street in Cyprus and you will see many locals wearing Arsenal, Chelsea, Man U - (most UK premiership teams actually) shirts and supporting and watching these teams every Saturday during the football season.
The local teams are also well supported obviously but I only ever see Greek/Cyprus shirts during the likes of the recent tournaments.
