Yoghurt comes from the word "yogurmak" in Turkish, which means "to knead". I am not sure about the English translation though.

Turkcyp, I always thought Turkish had quite a number of German words also... any figures for that?

Maybe I got confused with them having German advisors when recodifying the language from Arabic script to Latin script... :?:

AS far as I remember there are not much German words in Turkish. MAy be in law, there might be some German terms but that's all.

hm, I haven't heard of any german words in turkish. Since we have a lot of turkish people here, I'm sure I would have come across those words somehow.....

makaronia du fournu

hi all,

"brother" you mentioned that you like oven pasta - "firin makarinasi" (i assume and please correct) that its the turkish translation of "makaronia du fournu". That is my favourite too, cold or hot it always taste delicious!

I think this is the real recipe for "makaronia du fournu" http://tastecyprus.com/content/view/25/26/

Still can find a recipe for these but "keftethes" is my favourite meal and i can easily eat them in the bucket loads with freshly squeezed lemon. Yummy!

That is exactly spot on, nice one my friend.

I think what brother was referring in his original message was Pastitsio: The following is the description from the website:

Pastitsio is a baked dish rather like macaroni cheese with a layer of spiced meat in the middle and white cream on top


Brother am I correct?
