I was in the area on Sunday and I actually looked for the golf course ~ I'm not in the least bit interested in golf but as I was there and had heard so much about it thought I'd have a look.
I didn't actually find the course but I did find the thousands ( and I really mean thousands ) of new properties built because of it .
The developers have really had a field day with this area and quite honestly they have spoilt it ~ there must be a lot of desperate golfers out there to buy up so many properties on a promise of a golf course .
Or were they duped into believing it would be a great investment opportunity as usual.
With proposed plans for roughly 14 more golf courses in Cyprus to hopefully bring in "the better class of tourist" and the desperate state of our water supplies I can't really understand the Cyprus tourist boards thinking ~ and yes I know that new courses will have to provide their own water but what about the ones we already have.
For visitors from the UK and Western Europe I'm afraid Portugal and Spain are much better value than over priced Cyprus and don't take half a day getting there plus the weather is better too ~ a golfing weekend in Cyprus will never take off due to the cost and travelling time needed .
But hey what do I know ~ I don't play golf ~ I'm just being logical.
Driving around the many apparently empty golfing properties left me feeling very sad ~ another concrete jungle
