There are currently two topics asking about the things one is proud of or the things which embarrass us about our countries. I have a problem with this. I am willing to be proud of something to which I have contributed, or given consent. Ditto embarrassed.

I can wish certain things were not the way they are, and endeavour to alter them in any way I can make a contribution, but why should I take responsibilty for things to which I have made no input/contribution?

This is particularly pertinent in countries where an indigenous or earlier population has benn unfairly treated. I am not prepared to apologise for events which happened before I was born and over which I had no say.

What I am committed to doing is to ensure I treat everyone I encounter in as fair a way as possible and to vote in such a way as to ensure that
any present injustices are eradicated/prevented from being enacted.

I am proud of my Country as it brought the best musician on the face of earth: Bob Marley... but i am also embarrassed by corruption and poverty.

Shouldn't this be under the other threads, Raymanoff? What exactly did you contribute to Bob Marley's music??

Anyway, I thought you are Russian!! A RUSSIAN RASTA??? Now would be something.

I don't follow your logic Feisty. I dont agree with Raymanoff, but why "embarrassed"?

Just being light-hearted Perdike.
There's so much seriousness (made up word) around I thought I'd wind Ray up.
I do however think Bob Marley is/was crap.

Hi Feisty,

Well taste in muic is such a personal thing isn't it? I enjoyed a lot ot Bob Marley's music, but he was never a god to me.

As for Raymanoff, I thought he is Russian, so whats he on about? Maybe he took Bob's words too seriously and his state of mind is a bit 'weedy' ?

All of which is quite off thread.
