Sad thing is, most Americans thinks, most of these shows are funny.!!

They are not.!!

they don't call it the "boob tube" for nothing!
no matter what country you are from, if you have to sit in front of a tv for entertainment, that is pretty sad.

Sadly, not just USA tv shows. It seems to me the dumbing down has spread to all commercially run TV networks. NZ ones are EXCRUCIATINGLY NAFF!

I am embarrassed by TC politicians who are unable to prevent converting Northern Cyprus into a concrete jungle and the RoC for not spending enough money for forest fire protection/prevention.

Mills Chapman wrote:After seeing the thread about what makes you proud about your country, I thought it would be fair to have this thread too.

I'm American, and I'll add more to the other thread to keep my posts equal.

There are a lot of things that embarrass me about being American, but perhaps at the top of the list is that we're one of the five most richest and powerful countries in the world, yet we are not in the top 15 for the education, quality of life, or safety.

The education offerings in the bottom third of American public schools is quite poor. The subjects of history and geography get eliminated in favor of more time for math and reading instruction (to boost test scores in these two subjects), but then as a result, American students don't learn that much about the rest of the world. For example, many Americans don't know that we - along with the UK - toppled a democratic government in Iran in the early 1950s in order to protect oil interests, and a democratic government in Guatamala around the same time to protect interests in tropical fruit companies.

I'm also embarrassed that we are the fattest people in the world and that we haven't signed the landmine-ban agreement as well as the United Nations Rights of the Child document. We should also offer to unconditionally listen to our enemies in their capital before we decide to bomb them. (Sigh.)

Diddo and more, Mills. The kicker regarding education: we're amidst a math and a reading crisis. Go figure!

I wonder if China ever became the worlds number one super power how many pages one would fill of embarrassing practices by the Chinese governments alongside some of their "cultural" habits like skinning dogs alive , eating the brains of monkeys while the wretched animal is held in place by a contraction , and how many would be able to demonstrate.
Let us hope America continues to be the worlds number one !

Being a super power does not make a nation civilised. :x

Well done Mills - Only right we should look at the darker side as well.

Why am I embarrassed by GB ?

Summed up by a piece of graffiti on an old building at the Kollossi Refugee Camp, Limassol District that I saw in the Summer of 1976 which said:-

"TURKEY'S ALLIES SHARE TURKEY'S CRIMES"

Says a great deal for me.
