Lee, you keep asking the same question – presumably hoping that you will eventually find somebody that gives you a positive response and the ‘green light’ to go ahead?

I think you need to spend some time here and do your own research – speak to some developers and ask what they pay for having flooring laid, etc.

I think you’ll find that most developers will be using cheap Eastern European labour and there are literally dozens of ex-pat ‘handymen’ that will turn their hand to flooring, tiling, etc. Check out the English newspapers when you are here for all the ads.

Thanks cyprusgrump for your comments sorry is that is how you feel but doing carpets properly is harder than people think so the handy man will not be able to do this. i only wanted to know if this was a good idea.

As one of your previous threads on the same subject mentioned, carpet is extremely rare here – I only know of one carpeted room from all my friend’s houses (and that is in my cinema).

The bulk of your work would be tiling and laminate flooring. I have four rooms in my house with laminate flooring – my developer (Zavos) always puts laminate flooring in the bedrooms but 99% of the other developers that I know tile every room.

So, you’d be looking to work for a developer at slave wages or find expats that want to rip out tiled floors and fit laminate or carpets?

cyprusgrump is right. Carpets and vinyl are very rarely used here. I would pay more for perfect tiling but I don't know how many others would. Also to pay more I would have to be sure that what you would do would be better. I would need to see examples of your work. If you didn't tile any houses here then you will have no example to show so why would anybody pay more? Just a promise that it will be better is not enough.

I would applaud the advice given by Grump and Sotos.

Also I dont think some people appreciate that Cyprus is a relatively small Island and the population is only as much as in a large British City -Slightly less than Bimingham

So there are only so many businesses it can hold and support

I would say that any new business starting must be something special to be able to rival established businesses.

I'm not too well up on the paphos region but I know that in Nicosia businesses seem to be opening and closing at a rapid rate

You must also be able to attract the local market if you are going to survive. It would not IMO be wise to rely on the expat customer base

just my thoughts - Good Luck with whatever you decide

i agree with richardb you need both the expts and the locals to survive in business here in the north also.
lee do you have your own business now or are you an employee?
