I think many people here confused the meaning of a foreign worker (legal or illegal) with the meaning of "asylum seeker". The asylum seeker is a person who "escapes" or enters a foreign country and presents himself to the police saying "Please if you deport me back to my country they will kill me".

So lets see what happens in reality:They come here with the intention to work as illegal workers. Those who transport them illegality teach them the laws.So if they get caught they immediately demand Political asylum. That's why the number of those increased by 100% in one year.
The "human labour bussinessmen" that Insan described bring in foreign workers through legal procedures. Unfortunately during their 4-year stay and work they learn the laws also.So when their contract expires to avoid returning to their country they also ask for political asylum!

Insan wrote: I heard that there are thousands of GC "businessmen" who import cheap illegal workers from 3rd world countries

There are not thousands they are about 60 offices and they only bring LEGAL workers through legal procedures. Those workers are recorded and like I said after maximum 4 years they must go back to their country.

Usually from Pyla or the British bases. However the majority comes from the sea, usually from Lebanon and Syria.

That's absolutely true, however is not only for the visas of prostitutes that they lubricate is for everything that has to do with prostitution. Actually all prostitution bussiness is illegal. A woman can be a prostitute ONLY if she works for herself (thats what the law says). If she promotes others or if others do it a bussiness then it's actually illegal. But we all know what happens. Actually all Cypriot prostitutes work for them selves in their own appartments and they make fortunes.
We have 3 groups of underground mafia.Pristitution, Narcotics and gambling. 99% of the murders are among these mafia people. If you mess with them you better stay out, or your life is in danger.

**************

By the way here are some news: All non EU workers whose stay permit expires ARE NOT REPLACEABLE by new personel !! So withing 4 years from today forget seeing any Sri Lankas, Indians, Philippinos, Syrians etc in Cyprus!
