Council of Europe will invite the two leaders in Cyprus to

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

I absolutely agree with you VP. What I am sying also is that if Talat is truly going for unification then he needs to go to the EU along with Christofias stating their position and actions for unification. I hope they are not wasting UN time setting up committees if they are not addrssing issues that are of concern. They need to trash these issues within the parameters of the committees and go to EU parliament with a unified approach to solving the Cypro.

Nothing wrong with saying ur concern is that we will be swallowed up within the GC culture, this is what we need to maintain our identity. Just one example. On the other hand we agree to a unified Department of Comerce because we are going for a federal system and the GC's have proven to be great in economic development.

The 3 main red lines of the TCs are;

Security

BBF

Political equality

How do you suggest you address my concerns?

EP HIGH LEVEL CONTACT GROUP FOR TURKISH CYPRIOTS SENDS LETTER TO EP PRESIDENT POTTERING.

The European Parliament’s High Level contact group for relations with the Turkish Cypriot Community has sent a letter to the President of the European Parliament Hans-Gert Pottering expressing the Turkish Cypriot Side’s concerns regarding its political representation within the parliament.

According to a news report published on ABhaber.com, the High level contact group sent a letter to President of the European Parliament briefing him about its latest visit to the island between the 14th-16th of May.

The letter said that the ongoing solution process launched by the two leaders on the island was promising, and that the opening of the Lokmaci crossing point proved not only to have a symbolic importance but also served to conjure political support to the process on both sides of the divide.

The High Level contact group in its letter also noted that a solution to the Cyprus Problem could only be found by the two communities and the two communities alone.

He said it was also necessary for international actors to support the process before a referendum was held on the island.

Underlining the importance of the EU’s active support in settling the long-standing dispute on the island, the letter wrote “The European Parliament, through the High Level contact group will continue to actively contribute to the peace process in Cyprus. The European Parliament, through such activities has found the opportunity to show Turkish Cypriots what kind of advantages they will gain by becoming part of the EU.”

Highlighting the importance of strengthening communication between the EU and the Turkish Cypriot people, the letter stated that translating some important EU documents in Turkish will contribute to achieving that.

VP I am no politician I have no idea.

But I'll give it a go, as a citizen of a legal nation and a member state of the EU one would assume that security will be enforced by the same laws that ensure other european citizens are kept safe, within thei own country as well as third party countries.

BBF will mean that there is a zone within Cyprus or a county that has a majority of parliamentarians who are of Turkish speaking Cypriot ancestry (should you think this is the best way of oness).

Political equality is one person one vote. Anything other than this, is a compromise on the part of GsC people.

I think the Turkish Cypriot position has been clearly illustrated above by halils post. I think Christofias needs to re-think his position about giving more to the Turks.

So you would leave us to the mercy of the GCs majority and the fanatics it contains. Other EU nations do not have our history and levels of mistrust, this issue cannot be left to chance as TC feel that without Turkey protection they will be very vunerable with no way of going back to ask for assistance if the GCs shoudl decide to repeat the past.

This is what we need to help us move forward without it the TCs will not be interested in uniting as one country.

So again you expose us to the mercy of the GC majority who can use their advanatge to produce decisions that will effect us more negatively than the GCs, if we did not stand up for what we believed Cyprus today would be Greece so you must see hwo importnant this issue is for TCs to have the right to say no on predetermined sensitive issues.

Greek Cypriot Leader Demetris Christofias will be invited to address the PACE General Assembly on the 30th of September and Turkish Cypriot leader Talat will be invited to address the Assembly on the 1st of October.
On the same day, a report on the Cyprus issue is expected to be presented to the General Assembly.

 Another success of the Turkish diplomacy. While talat is speaking 99% of the General Assembly will be sending congratulations telegrams to President Christofias for the Republic of Cyprus's National Day

1st of October should give Talat plenty of time to get the script from Ankara and memorise it.

Priceless, totally agree....
