Religion. Is it for the feeble minded ?

How can people have "faith" in something they cannot touch..see..hear..smell..?

To the extent that they allow it to rule their lives and in many cases allow it overule common sense..?

Anyone read Richard Dawkins book..The God Delusion..

Its all about peoples imaginary friends....!

Thats why it is called the "gift" of faith perhaps? I think religion can be used to guide ones life - as in being kind to each other, but you are right, fanatics twist and bend God's word to their own ends. I DO believe in God - very strongly, but never in the Spanish inquisition!!!!

connor.
don't forget the 'sixth sense'. :)
Apart from religion, which is faith-based on what people are taught to believe as opposed to what they have investigated for themselves, it is possible to 'intuit' God or whatever name you want to choose to describe the all-pervading consciousness that is life itself.
Now whether or not what you intuit is actually real is the big question. Spiritual experiences can be traced back to neurological responses (the God gene) but who is to say that the condition a person finds themselves under in those circumstances, is not actually the real state that we are supposed to live in, as opposed to the unbalanced one we now call reality. Maybe the current state of humanity is not really who we are at all.
I used to diss religion. I still do when I see it causing people to behave badly. However there are those that draw comfort from it and it improves their lives, and who are we to tell them otherwise :)

I believe there is something, giving it a name and calling it a religion is something I could not do.

The nearest thing I can get to is having a higher concience, knowing that if I hurt someone it would cause me distress.

I have never understood those who could delibertately hurt others, and then walk into a building and pretend they are forgiven. The only person who can forgive you is the one you have hurt.
