venedicians was chatolic and the orthodox greeks in the island didnt have rights to open churches in cyprus. their population it was about 20.000, after ottomans took the island 30.000 from the soldiers and their families moved to cyprus. also 5720 families as well moved to cyprus with the order of the ottoman empire. after ottoman empire orthodox greeks had all rights to open churches and full rights how all countries people had. 1878-1923 ottomans rent the island for the uk by agreeing aginst russia if they have any problems uk will support ottoman empire.

Read this : In the summer of 1570, the Turks struck again, but this time with a full-scale invasion rather than a raid. About 60,000 troops, including cavalry and artillery, under the command of Lala Mustafa Pasha landed unopposed near Limassol on July 2, 1570, and laid siege to Nicosia. In an orgy of victory on the day that the city fell--September 9, 1570--20,000 Nicosians Greeks were put to death, and every church, public building, and palace was looted. Word of the massacre spread, and a few days later Mustafa took Kyrenia without having to fire a shot. Famagusta, however, resisted and put up a heroic defense that lasted from September 1570 until August 1571.!!

So if 20000 were put to death then no G/C was left on the island.

"In1191 AD Cyprus is defeated by the crusader Richard the Lionheart. The island is then sold to the Knights Templar, who resell it to Guy de Lusignan. From 1192 to 1489 Cyprus is ruled under a feudal system and Catholicism becomes the official religion.
In1489 control of the island passes to the Venetians who takes steps to fortify the island and build walls around the towns of Nicosia and Famagusta.
In1571 Ottoman troops invades the island and Cyprus becomes part of the Ottoman Empire. Islam is introduced to the island and Catholicism is expelled. The Greek Orthodox religion is restored."

where you get details. ottomans had war with venedicians !!! catolics had problem not the orthodox greeks. please provide me proper history or encolopedia book . history always tell the truth . i can proof with many history books (international) that the truth is venedicians had problem not the Orthodox Greeks. Thats the reason they are many in cyprus now. wikipedia says same but not reliable. i got this info from proper history books. try to search and u will see. not in the internet. you should now your history correct !!!! then you will realize that the chatholics brainwashed you for crusade. ottomans were great empire which they give freedom to all citizens and it was the real democracy . why you never have any evidence that from 1571 300 years you dont have any complain to ottoman empire . ottomans gave you freedom from the venetians.


It must be remembered that the Venetians were foreign feudal landlords in Cyprus, and the first step of the Ottoman governors was to abolish the feudal system, giving the freehold of the land to the peasant families who had worked it.

On the other hand, the Catholic Church of the Crusader and Venetian rulers were expelled. Its building were confiscated and converted into mosques, or were sold to the Orthodox Church. They also made being Catholic a punishable offence, so Catholics had to choose between conversion to Orthodox Christianity, to Islam, or exile. The majority chose Christianity, but the result was that the population began to take on the ethnic structure it still possesses today, namely Greek and Turkish.

Ok, this isn't one of those fun games like 'what's my fruit', so apologies if that's what you were expecting. I want to ask you all, what nationality you would say I am based on this information:

1. My parents are both Greek Cypriots, born and raised in Cyprus but have lived it the UK for many years.

2. I was born in the UK and have lived here all my life. I was educated and work/pay taxes here. My passport, birth certificate and all other official documentation describes my nationality as 'British'.

3. I have never lived in Cyprus but visit as often as I can.

4. I haven't done any military service in Cyprus but if I were to relocate on a permanent basis then I would be obliged to do so.

5. In the eyes of the Cypriot government, I would be considered a 'repatriated Cypriot' if I move there, not a British citizen living there under my EU rights.

6. I speak Greek quite fluently, but there is always room for improvement.

7. I take as much interest in Greek and Cypriot culture as I do British culture.

8. My religion is Greek Orthodox.

9. I have a Greek name.

10. I love Cyprus more than the UK.

11 .Most English/British people (who aren't of 'foreign' descent) I have met regard me as a 'foreigner'.

All the Greeks (from Greece) I have met regard me as a Cypriot and a Hellenic brother.

Most Cypriots I have met (both GC and TC) regard me as a Cypriot.

as i stated on thop many venetians become muslims and orthodox or expile. now we talking about 500 years . if after ottomans came only 100.000 people here in 300 years till british time easylt this could increase. another most important thing that when british start to rule the island some greece greek moved here as well. even imagine 20.000 real greek orthodox was here and many venetians changed their releigoun to orthodox. even we say 40.000 total and if the population increased 1000 a year easly it could come up to todays 500.000 . and also you can see the cypriots which is about 30% which is very nice people and they dont hate TCs , the most of them knows the truth deep inside of them .
