From what I have read on forum over the past 6 months, there seems to be little love for the British, or is it the Goverment of the UK, I still cannot put my finger on it.

Purdey, the USA and UK armies are stationed around the world, not just in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I hope the British bases will be out of Cyprus as well.

I also would like to see the Bases pulled out of Cyprus, and why stop there lets remove all the Brits full stop and watch the arse fall out of the Cyprus economy. Its no wonder that the problems in Cyprus never get resolved if they all have the mentality of some of the people on here!!

I gladly agree. If you had pissed off since the 1930s when we first asked you to, and allowed Cypriots to take decisions for their own island in a democratic way then we wouldn't have any problems today. But it is never too late, so when are you departing?

The tourists that come from UK to Cyprus do not cover value for the vast amounts of prime coast land your bases occupy on our island.

But I wonder, when you go to Spain, France or any other country, do you demand that those countries should also give you bases in return? I don't think so. So why such a demand from Cyprus? Cyprus is our own island and it should be up to us if we want you bases or not, and we don't. Beyond that it is up to you if you want to visit Cyprus or not. We don't depend on you.

It is easy purdey: The British Goverment and anybody that supports their past and present actions against Cyprus, including the presence of the bases on our island.

We have nothing against ordinary people that recognize that Cyprus belongs to Cypriots and that the British had/have no right to force their rule or bases or anything else on us.

You are all just like the rest of the middle east countries.

If its not your way then you are against it. Its like dealing with hormonal teenagers. Unwilling to sit down and and discuss each sides views and settle on a compromise.

Stupid childish kids!!!!

Fair enough Piratis, but I will ask again, why does the Cypriot Goverment not demand their land back. I am quiet sure the British public would be right behind you. In general terms the British public tend to be very fond of Cyprus and cypriots.
Out of interest what would happen to the prime coast line the bases occupy ?

What sort of compromise do you want from our island? Take back your troops to your own country and let us finally have freedom and peace! Enough crimes and pain you have caused around the world already!

8)unfortunately purdey the perception of English people on here seems to be that they are all covered in tattoos, wear England t shirts or shorts, have shaved heads and drink themselves into oblivion.
While i accept that there are a good few of these about (and business doesnt mind taking their money) We are not all of that ilk or intelligence so please dont treat us all as a mob, try individualism.....After all if i was to say all Cypriots rip off tourists that would be an insult and a lie - as well as a generalisation...so lets have a little tolerance please...

And just to get back on topic: All british forces are volunteers, there is no conscription.. the so called Territorial Army has members abroad serving with (and in some cases dying with) regular forces ..all volunteers.

I don't know if this is true or not, but my friend in Cyprus reckons that the Brits are supposed to pay rent for the bases so technically they're only renting them from the Cypriot government. He also says they haven't actually ever paid the rent though. :?

I already explained this in my previous post purdey. The Cyprus goverment doesn't want to open up a second front.

The Cypriot people have asked from the UK to leave many times in the most clear ways from 1930s until 1959. They didn't, but they instead went on to create a whole conflict so they could keep bases here. So please don't tell me that if the Cyprus goverment asked that the UK bases would just leave.
