Whining British Soldiers..

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

Hi folks. This is my first posting on the forum and maybe I should have chosen another, but here goes.

As an ex sailor, I'm aware of the brainwashing that takes place on new recruits. Call it brainwashing or indoctriantion, it means the same. People have to be taken from the streets and formed intoa fighting group. That requires obeying orders and discipline, something that many new recruits have absolutely no experience of, so the brainwashing converts the person to anumber, a number who will obey orders to the letter! And foget about war crimes/illegal orders. They are only committed by those who lose the war!

Also, it's interesting to here the Brits and the Septics and the Germans etc. going on about being the best in the world. How do you measure how good an army is? Brainwashing, perhaps?

Most countries have sent troops to other countries at one time or another Piratis, but no that was then not now. Don't worry the British will be out of Iraq soon and I am sure Afghanistan will follow.

Interesting first post Celsis. Where did you do your training. I can't of been far away from you, also my brother is the Royal Navy.

Purdey, the USA and UK armies are stationed around the world, not just in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I hope the British bases will be out of Cyprus as well.

And please don't tell me that the troops are send to "fight the evils and bring democracy", we all know that is not true and the presence of British bases in Cyprus is another proof for this.

I'm sorry but what you say is still ridiculous.
If you want to talk about historical things lets talk about German troops who gassed millions of people.
Lets talk about the 20 million people in Russia who starved to death before WW2 even started when there was a state sponsored starvation and food was taken from the people and people ate their dead children because they were so hungry.
Are Mugabe's soldiers using their own minds now killing people simply because they support the other side?
The list could go on and on and on.

So because the Germans gassed millions some decades ago, and the Russians starved millions some decades ago, this means that it is fine for the British or the Americans to do the same today?

Historically the USA and UK have caused as much harm as any other colonial power. But unlike the Germans, they continue doing it today as well.

I don't think I have said any such thing.

What I did say was that the USA and the UK come a long long way down the list of powers that brainwash their troops which is what your statement did say and also that neither country's troops are naturally associated with oppression.

My statment was not just about brainwashing. Here is my complete statment: "Basically these countries (USA, UK etc) brainwash these people and send them to fight and kill even more unfortunate people in other countries"

I guess you missed the second part of my statement. What Germany did was over 6 decades ago. Today, how many countries do you know that send their troops around the world, and maintain tons of bases in foreign countries, in order to impose their will by force or the threat of use of force?

The USA is at the top of the list, and the UK is near.

Just an off the cuff question here.
What do you believe stops Turkey invading and occupying the whole of Cyprus and who do you believe would be one of the first countries to intervene if they attempted it?
