Of all the nations on this planet sharing the warmth of the sun the glow of the moon and the stars above , the Island of Cyprus has a lot more than its size determines. Sunshine 12 months of the year , clear blue skies , the freindliest people you could ever wish to meet , give or take a few ,
a culture that places great values on the concept of family , respect and understanding the importance of integrity and " Anthropia" , a word than when translated to English merely means humanity and yet "Anthropia" is the greatest compliment that one can pay to anyone.
We have gone through a catastrophic war that has deprived us of some 37 % of our most fertile and economically important areas and yet we have managed to rebuild , progress and become a nation to be proud of.
When I left Cyprus in 1961 it was to search for a better life that could not at that time be found in Cyprus having just gained a fragile independence from Britain .
Today hardly any Cypriots emigrate in order to search for a better life as we did all those years ago.
Our Cyprus pound has been , to the annoyance of the UK Cypriots !!!) a strong currency right though even during the early days following the Turkish invasion when many were predicting the collapse of our economy and yet not only did the CYPRIOT ECONOMY RECOVER BUT WENT FROM STRENGH TO STRENGTH.
The Cypriots are a unique race in that calamities are simply written off with a wave of a hand " afta exi i zoi " thats life ! "En eshi san tin iyia "
Nothing like health while at the same time busily searching for the next opportunity to improve life.
The Cypriots are a success in every country that they emigrated to still retaining the old family values and maintaining the importance of self respect and integrity.
I love the weather , I love the food , I adore the people and love Cyprus whose pet name for me has always been Sweet Sunny Cyprus .
I have a catch phrace that I only use when in Cyprus and really meant it when I constantly say it " TI OREA POU PERNOUME " "WE ARE HAVING A GOOD TIME "
Tell us why you love yours .

I am stuck in the office, the temperature outside is 40 degrees Centi (in the shade) and the aircondition isn't working. Hell must be better! Give me Alaska anytime.

Are you asking Cypriots why they are proud of Cyprus Mr M? Or asking anyone from anywhere why they are proud of their particular country?

Tess , I'm asking why are you proud of your country , in your case I believe , forgive me if I'm wrong Ireland .( If I wasnt a Cypriot I would be Irish !!)
I want to hear the views of the T/Cs and the Turkish and Greek "foreigners " who have as their country either Greece or Turkey.
The English naturally on England etc etc .
Bananiot has already informed us of the extreme heat in his office !!!!

Well, here goes...............The Republic of Ireland, despite a long history of troubles, has become one of the most developed and peaceful countries in the world. It has the highest quality of life of anywhere on Earth, I am proud of Irelands non Nato membership and neutrality, and proud that it is truly a democratic country. I love the warmth and friendliness of the Irish people, their religious values that still shine through. I love the way the river Lee flows into Tralee bay and beyond you can gaze at the beautiful ring of Kerry...............
