If they did that the cops would have no cabaret to go to. Never bite the hands that feeds you.

It looks like the police aren't safe these days either:-

Early Sunday morning, just after midnight, on June 22, the Peyia Police Station was broken into by four Cypriots (not from Peyia) who freed a friend who had been arrested earlier that night and who was being detained in the jail. The three policemen on duty (including our Community Policeman, Spiros Pentaras), were engaged in a fight and were slightly injured. Fortunately, they are all OK, although they required a visit to the hospital. The five youths were all apprehended shortly thereafter and are in jail and will appear before court very soon. Drugs were involved and the situation started at a bar in Coral Bay, which a few weeks ago had been raided by a team of policemen which included the Special Forces, MMAD.

I thought Cypriot police had guns, why didn't they shoot the bastards!

Magnus,

The police don't need to round up the local mob as they do quite a good job of knocking each other off. Car bombs, drive by shootings, etc.

It means the police can collect their 'presents' and still get rid of the criminals!

...the police have guns, and thank goodness it appears that they are not going off indiscriminately, at least in the part that is not subject to an Army of (illegal) occupation.

CBBB, i presume you mean generally speaking, in jest, that there is police corruption, wherever there is crime.

I will refer only to the first post. Did you ever think that maybe, but maybe that is not the truth? That maybe the old guys just felt is their parking place (which is not, as roads are public to everyone), did you think that maybe they went to the place where these "criminals" were and started swearing at them?
Of course the young ones were even stupid than them and started a fight. (But stupid than them were the old people which should not go to some places in the night and just act SUPERIOR).

If you don't share my opinion I just don't give a f#ck on what you think.

I just discovered that what I have just said is a perpetuum... don''t give a s*it, you think about it if you have nothing else better to do.

Yes, i thought of that, that maybe the old people went to the 'youth center' and started shouting and swearing etc at the kids, which sparked off tempers and escalated the conflict.

however this is no excuse, you do not attack and old man no matter what he says to you. even if he insults you, violence against an elder is totally unacceptable . you reply politly 'endaxi mastre, endaxi' and move your f@cking car. then you go back to the pub and moan with your friends about how difficult old people can be and have a few more beers and forget about it.

Sounds like a good approach to life J&J. Respect others as you would like them to respect you.
