I have seen many strange spiders in the 7 years I have been here. Firstly actually I saw a small scorpion in Peyia on my verander sliding door ceil...upside down so must have walked under it with my head that lose to it's tail just to get out there :O Captured it, then let it go outside...it was dark and it vanished within seconds so I ran inside quickly

lol. Second encounter was a big black spider out by the pool. Thirdly I moved to my new place in Anarvagos, and first time I went into the pool house outside there was a black widow and small brown mate with nesting webs on the wall! Everyone assured me they aren't out here... Well I have seen two more since and plus there was an epidemic about a year ago in Paphos of Brown Widow spiders (I captured 2, plus loads of giant virus shaped balls (their eggs))..they were everywhere! I have seen many funnel web spiders (different spcies...not the dangerous kind) and many tarantulas and wolf spiders eather by the pool or in it!! I also witnessed two African signature spiders (orb spiders). And lastly, I believe I have found a few recluse spiders out here. Apparantly there are also Trapdoor spiders in Cyprus:

I think it's silly this whole tourist censorship, people wouldn't stop coming here just because they are here. Might be an idea for the hospitals to stock up on various anti-venoms though!
Ah I also hav a big orange Garden Orb Weaver in my garden...got some strange markings on its belly, saw it crawling along te other day as opposed to just hanging there like it always does...a very slow clunky spider! lol
