if you go about 5 km into the desert you will still be able to get 1 bar max... no signal around villagers and farms... its still a 3rd world country. Protaras should have signal near the town square... but only 2km radius max

If that's a uk virgin mobile yes it will work by connecting to either CYTA or MTN.

But why waste your money by using a UK mobile chip when you can buy a Cyprus chip for around €25 which includes some calls and if you use the mobile say 10 times to ring the UK or someone in the UK rings ( you pay for the bit from the UK to Cyprus ) you will save money ~ lots of money.

You will need your phone to be unlocked for all networks though for the Cyprus chip to work ~~ keep the chip for next year if you intend to come to Cyprus again ~ if you top up the credit with a few euro's your chip will be valid for 12 months from the date of the most recent top up.
