Looking down from the fish taverna on the tiny stretch of coast in Morphou Bay that is not under Turkish occupation. It is very beautiful there and worth the drive and the food is not bad either!

The olive tree with its gigantic tap root system and lack of surface root was a cancer to the once thickly forested Cyprus. The lack of Surface roots of this non indigenous plant resulted in massive soil erosion and near decertification. The introduction of the goat and Mouflon from persia did not make things better. Today it is almost impossible to imagine Cyprus as an island where permanent creeks and rivers flowed. The rivers will flow again if native Cypriot plants are used in a massive reforestation campaign. The ancients believed that rivers "were born in forests".
