Olives were first introduced into Cyprus in 3000.B.C, from Micro Asia. The olive tree which now exists is believed to have been bought to Cyprus by the Romans. It is known as the 'Cyprus Olive Oil Tree'. This olive tree takes many forms and produce is varied in shape. The oil is known as very high quality oil, with a fruity aroma. It's production is unreliable from season to
season.

Richard thanks for that nugget :D ... What I love about Cyprus Olive Oil above all else, is that one never really knows how nutty it will be ... :?

Not for us the perfect flavour-breakdown flounced by Italians, the pretentious parlance of the Spaniard wannabee oil-merchants. Even the Greeks are left feeling high and dry on a Mount, oiled but not fueled.

We Cypriots are unique in producing the bestest, tastiest Olive Oil which defies description ... 8)

Historically, they have not been here very long. But their presence has been devastating. This is not political though.

Just a chronicle of Cyprus-related matters that existed before the Turks ... and would no doubt have continued to exist, if the Ottoman's had not invaded this sepulchered Isle ... 8)

So if you have anything of interest to do with Cyprus-issues ... which have no relevance to the presence or absence of Turks ... feel free to post otherwise ... scuttle off. :D

Cyprus is about more than just the Turkish Invasion .... 8)

Can you explain the meaning of this ""sepulchered Isle ""
or was the usage just another attempt in promoting your excellent communicative skills. How many on this forum have ever called this island "sepulchered ""

Because of the commercial importance of its geographical situation in the Mediterranean, the island of Cyprus has, throughout history, been subject to colonisation. It was occupied consecutively by Egyptians, Hittites, Phoenicians, Assyrians, Persians, :? Romanians, Byzantines, Lusignians, Venetians and, finally in 1571, Turks.

In 1878 the island was rented to Britain and in 1923, as part of the Peace Treaty of Lausanne, Turkey accepted the annexation of the island to Britain who, 1925, pronounced it a Crown Colony.

As a result of differences between the Greek and the Turkish, a Republic of Cyprus was created in August 1960; Britain, Greece and Turkey were guarantors of its independence.

In 1974, a Greek Cypriot coup attempted to annex the island to Greece triggered an invasion by Turkey and the Turkish Government despatched a military force to the Island.

In Polis there is an Olive tree over 700 years old ... if anyone has some details to post that would be great ... otherwise I will keep looking.

We also have an Olive tree that is probably over 500 years old ... I will get further details. I don't want to chop it down to confirm by counting rings ...

We had one also. A 500 year old olive tree on the Larnaca/ Kophinou road. It was said we acquired it from your Venetian overlords. In the cavernous trunk 'you could place 16 chairs', allegedly. I did not do the test myself.

Oh please....

Cypriot culture consists of A LOT of Turkish things. You Greeks can't even do the native dances of your country properly for God sakes!!! Zeybekikomush   They act like they know what they're talking about, "only one man may dance it at a time"....and then they start skipping like 12 year old schoolgirls on speed. They don't even understand the music, you can even find videos of them dancing with POTS to ZEYBEK MUSIC...(Need I say more?!?!?!?)       Thats just shameful!
It's so bad that it would be more accurate to call it a TC PARODY dance. Because thats what it is...A BLOODY JOKE!

It doesn't matter how long we've been in Cyprus anyways. We ruled the country for 400 years and if someone else was to come and take over then OFCOURSE the culture would change if such a long time passed! Look how much we get influenced by things around us NOW.....all the fads that come and go....

I mean what was Cypriot culture back then? Does anyone know what Cypriot culture consisted of without the Turks? What did the GCs ever do? Make pots?!?!?!?!? Whoopeeee.....

What the hell's dancing gotta do with anything. I don't know the cultural dance of my home country, or indeed the whole words to a lot of the "national" songs, but that doesn't mean I'm not from my country you dipstick! If you think a dance makes you more of a "native" of a country, feck off to Ireland and join them in a bloody Riverdance!!!???!!
