Whilst in the US recently I took the opportunity to buy a Sony PSP (playstation portable). I have to say I ike this machine a lot.
I like the design and build quality. I like the screen which is excellent. I like the built in wifi functionality. I liked the price (USD 250).
It does have some downsides. The screen is not usable in direct sunlight. The games (being dvd style based) can have long load times in them. The game / movie disk are a proprietary system (UMD) so at the moment there is no way to burn your own disks for the machine (though you can store your own data - movies, pics and songs to the memory stick)
Overall I think it's a great peice of kit and has a great future ahead of it and I am very happy with my purchase.
It is due for release in Europe in September at a price of 179 sterling or 250 euros. Just a word of warning to those, like myself, who buy one outside of europe. The machine does have region coding. Sony have said that this will not be implemented on games, so games from any region will work on any PSP but for movies thery will be inforcing the region coding so movies bought in europe will not play on a USA PSP (but they will play on a Japanese one which is the same region as Europe).
