Hi Humanist

80 bucks a week on food is very cheap . I must admit that I am used to grandma food but it will have to be something I will do without. As far as I see it rent is gonna be my main concern. How much an hour (net) would you earn work?ng at a casual student job? I think it's around 15-20 bucks an hour.

Umit

I suggest you best learn grandmas cooking secrets, keeps the costs down. Fasolada and cheekpeas are great for you. A bit of assofadita keeps the farts at bay.

Mate I haven't been on a student job or salary for quite sometime but $15 is about the average. If you want to sed me a pvt message with your age and current qualifications I will be able to may be give you a bit more info. Rent is astronomical. In sydney a descent clean place will set you back a lot a studio apartment will set you back $250 near the city and university.

If you consider Sydney and you have some tertiary quals from recognised institution I may be able to give you some names of employers who may take you on. Your salary would then vary from $22 - $25 an hour. I have contacts in welfare field such as child protection and youth work.

Work is no problem...Uni hrs are not that many per week...so you have time to look for part time employment...You could share a house with other uni students...

The down side...family...you can't just jump on a plane and head home to see mum and dad...You could be here for the rest of your life...It's a tough call mate...

Have you enquired about entrance exams?...

Good luck

Boomers , I am past the missing home part. What I am worrying about is finding casual work to get myself by. Since I will not be getting any financial help from my parents anymore. I have no idea about how much casual student jobs pay. I read that it's about 15 bucks an hour but I need to know how much I can get net.

When it comes to entrance , it is specified that a high school diploma and completion of the first year is enough . I am thinking of doing either business add. or Political Science and droping Electrical engineering .

I am not sure Umit...my oldest, 2nd year uni she gets about $1500 per month from part time jobs...She was lucky and got a jpb with Sportsgirl, a female clothes chain store, where she manages one of the shops on the weekend and she gets double and triple time...Not everyone pays that...For example Gloria Jean, where she worked before, she used to get $12 per hour...She also works at a pharmacy, and she only gets $12 per hr...

I think it has something to do wjth what you get classified...partimer, casual and full time...rates vary a lot...

But I think end of the day you gonna need more than $2k to survive...and if you do make $2k, you can forget for any government assistance...

Sharing is cheap, coz it will only cost you $300 per month...in Melbourne that is...One of my employees shares and this is how much his share of the rent is in a reasonably large house....On top of that you got food and etc...

But as they say Umit, if there is a will there is a way...End of the day Umit, what have you lost by trying?...you are young anyway...You can pick up when ever you want to...

Umit, there is a lot of work around if you want it. We are looking for workers in most industries. Cleaning is a good part time job for students and pays well also. Good luck mate

Good to hear of our Oz brothers meeting up.

Umit, stop just reading and post more mate. Your contributions are of value brother, if I may say.

I don't know, I've always got many things on my mind and I don't want to trouble myself by taking this place too seriously, if I may say  . Nobody really listens to anybody here anyway, most people have got concrete views that they try to impose on others. When it comes to the "Cyprus Problem", I don't know what to think myself. Being side of the conflict I don't think I can ever be impartial, but I try to be.
