Umit ,
just i read your story .

Abiciğim , don't give up . You are studying at one of the well known University . They are standard is very high . Try it again . İt will not the end of the world . my son did same mistake .he changed his branch because of Differential Equations too . he was studying Electrical and electronic engineering . he changed it for computing teacher .he will be teacher but it will be very difficult for him to find job . may be it will help him for our production company which we are planing to open in few years time .

i can understand your feelings about military service if you give up you will do it as a ordinary soldier but if you finished you will be officer .you don't like taking orders than .

umit07 wrote:THe problem GR is that it seems I am fed up with engineering and need to study something else. But if I start from scratch on another subject , I will be called in for national service before being able to graduate. I think I might study something like Political science or Business . I don't know . The question is will I be able to study and work in Melbourne without financial help from home? Being a citizen means I am eligible for a student loan which pays for a very large portion if not all of the school fees.

Hi Umit
If you are an Australian citizen, there is financial assistance available to you. You can either apply for Austudy (if you are a full time student) or you can apply for Newstart allowance. Go to this link for further information

http://www.centrelink.gov.au/

Now for the jobseeking :)
http://www.seek.com.au/
http://www.careerone.com.au/
or if you are in receipt of centrelink benefits
https://jobsearch.gov.au/Login/Login.aspx?WHCode=0

and if you would like any assistance with formatting your resume for the Australian labour market - I can help

I hope this helps

Umit its possible, but tough...

Work is no problem...Uni hrs are not that many per week...so you have time to look for part time employment...You could share a house with other uni students...

The down side...family...you can't just jump on a plane and head home to see mum and dad...You could be here for the rest of your life...It's a tough call mate...

Have you enquired about entrance exams?...

Good luck

umit hi,

Last October I travelled from Melbourne to Larnaca. I traveled with emirate great airline and not long at all. Had a great experience.

I am not from Melbourne but the rents in Australia have generally gone up a one bedroom place would at least be AUD200. You may be able to apply for Austudy but it would just cover your rent. Food is almost as exensive as it is in the RoC. Courses have also gone up and some courses you have to pay up front. If your an Australian citizen you may get delayed HECS which means you have to pay as soon as you enter the workforce and earn more than $AUD24000.

Adelaide has a great universities and rent is generally cheaper.

Sydney has great weather, accessible univerities but a two bedroom terrace very basic $500 per week rent, public transport is also very expensive,

petrol is going up nearly every week and they reckon it will reach $2 a litre by the end of the year. Very expensive for Australia

What the hell are you guys doing. Please do not encourage any further Turkish migration to Australia as Australia is a very bad country.

We have the worlds most venomous spiders.
We have the world's most venomous snakes.
The cost of living is soaring.
Our universities are worst than those in the "trnc"
We have a labor government.
We have a drought.
Our tv programming is crap.
You will have to endure Rugby League.
Rent is expensive.
We are a long way from europe.

Umit, I think you are better off in the "trnc". If not give the UK a shot. They have great universities. :D

If you must come to Australia, then go to Melbourne - the country's best city. :D Those Mex Errrrr Melbournians are very friendly. :D

Australia is so bad, I am thinking of leaving myself.

Boomers , I am past the missing home part. What I am worrying about is finding casual work to get myself by. Since I will not be getting any financial help from my parents anymore. I have no idea about how much casual student jobs pay. I read that it's about 15 bucks an hour but I need to know how much I can get net.

When it comes to entrance , it is specified that a high school diploma and completion of the first year is enough . I am thinking of doing either business add. or Political Science and droping Electrical engineering .

Everything is getting expensive all over the world Humanist. The onlt thing that can be considered cheap in the North of Cyprus is Rent. Petrol is 2.3 AUD and food is not that cheap either.

As an estimate how much do you think a student would need to get by , excluding rent.
