When seen from a distance, on the edge of a village green say, I think its all too easy to over-romanticise cricket. On the field it's a very competitive game at all levels of play.

It can also be very painful, especially when that hard ball hits your middle stump. :bawling:

I remember getting roped into women's cricket at Uni .... The real pitches were used by the guys .... So we had to play in this field next to a pub after the sheep had all been moved off .. and it was the most disgusting hour of my life ... running daintily to avoid falling into sheep droppings!

I am purely a spectator now ... 8)

Why did the Brits not popularise Cricket in Cyprus ?

What a waste of space Golf courses are

Yes I propose that Cricket can civilise the Cypriot ..... 8)

Where's it being played? :?

Oracle can you hazard a guess as whether I like cricket or not ?

As an excuse for quashing down the refreshments I would hazard it meets with your approval ...

When I was a kid growing up in Stroumbi the Great , I remember playing a sort of a cricket type of a game called LINGRI , similar to cricket but not half as boring as bloody cricket I cant stand the stupid game , as I have previously said the most boring people on earth are Asians and what do they do to alleviate their boredom , play stupid cricket !!
I hate the game just as much as I hate Traffic Wardens !
Think I will have another glass of red !

But 'Cricket is the new Soccer'; in the Autumn the England team will be playing five 4 hour matches against the West Indies (are they boring too?), winning team members will 'earn' $1m each. Not bad fo 20 hours 'work'!

No doubt thye will all be moving to Wilmslow and buying BMW 4x4 for their WAGs!

As a special favour, Miltiades, I will check to see if there is a Traffic Warden team in the Cyprus League - they are always looking for sponsors :-)

When you get to my age Svet !!!! , you have trouble remembering how many legs you have after a bottle or two , hence the cliche "legless " Now try counting the score at a cricket match ,400 , 500 , 600 not in but 1000 out , the game was devised by someone inebriated , just as inebriated of the inventor of the French language who must have been high on the old Napoleon when he spelled Gron Pri as Grand Prix , what a prick he must have been !!!
As for a Traffic Warden Team in Cyprus , I will most certainly sponsor them to hell !!!

Cricket is the game of anti-colonialism. It should be encouraged in Cyprus.

The great Windies teams of the 1970s were hugely important in promoting a new self-confidence in Caribbean independence.

And of course the Aussies, New Zealanders, South Africans joined the Indians, Sri Lankans and Pakistanis in defeating England.

Cricket is a great revolutionary game (read the work of CLR James, -Guardian cricket correspondent from the 1930s)

Cypriots don't need cricket, we've got the souvla and tavli. Besides, it's just one step away from morris dancing and snooker.
