this week in the village our neighbour had 2 snakes in his palm tree. the shot gun came out and the event was all over. does anyone have any ideas on how to keep snakes away?

Not if they are not directly threatening.

(Last time I heard of someone local out to shoot a snake was about 25 years ago when the snake was trying to go up a drainpipe outside their bedroom .... and they still let it go, merely pointing the gun at it as it slithered off ... I was the one who raised the alarm).

They are making a healthy return in numbers around here, and people generally take precautions just to avoid them.
