I have been reading varies ideas by the airlines to cut their operating costs, due to high fuel costs. Some even suggested by flying just a little "slower" than normal, that would save some fuel, but will add few more minutes to one's travel time. One thing for sure, and that is, our plane ticket prices have risen a lot lately due to higher fuel cost.
I don't know, are they really going to save much fuel by flying 20 Knots slower and then turn around and use the fuel they saved to fly additional 10 minutes to get to their destination.?? One thing I learned while doing long distance sailing, which was, the sooner you get to your destination, the sooner you will be safe from adverse weather hitting you middle of nowhere. Flying longer just adds more time for things to go wrong by increasing the chances of "Murphy's Law" coming into play.
So, rather than slowing down we should in fact go faster, and weight being the determining factor for burning more fuel when all things are equal, I thought the airlines should change the way they price their tickets. I think the airlines should set a price chart of what it costs to get a a Kilo of weight from here to there and make a profit at the same time. Then sell their tickets based on the passengers weight, which will need to be weighed once again just before boarding the plane and make the adjustments to the weight used original by the passengers when booking the flight, which may have been months in advance. If one weighs less, then they will be credited for a refund, and if weighing more, then they get charged more. Same will be for the baggage also. One will be charged per kilo for all the weight they bring to the plane....period.!!!
So, we need ideas how to take as little weight to the plane as possible to save money.
Use the toilet on the ground before boarding the flight.
Bring "electronic books" to read and not the real ones.
Don't eat and drink anything before the flight. Get them on the plane, even if you have to pay for it.
Wear light clothes and so on!!
So, what else can we and the airlines make changes to save on fuel.??
No wacky ideas will be too wacky, so lets hear them.
