They certainly did JoJo. Both countries owe each other a lot, I wonder what sort of shape the Cyprus economy would be in were it not for the income from British tourists and, more recently, residents.

The Cyprus economy would be doing rather well without the British thank you !!
We would be riding donkeys that require no petrol thus saving money we never had in the first place !!!

I'd like to see you on a donkey Miltiades after a glass or 2 of Cabernet!!

Here Im just about to ride my donkey >>>

It's unfair to assume such a thing. I've seen many Brits act like they're the master race while on vacation. They're even worse than the Germans and well up to par with Americans (who truly think they own everything, know everything and expect everything to be 'like home'). That says a lot doesn't it? However, these arseholes are a minority if you consider all tourists worldwide one homogenous group.

Believe it or not... but some people actually make their beds, clean up the worst mess (wiping sand, throwing garbage etc) in their hotel rooms even though it's included in the price paid. Some people give gifts to workers just to say 'thank you for making our visit a nice one' rather than throwing them a handful of unwanted change like they're some kind of monkeys dancing to the tune of a barrel organ. Some people know that bad service at a restaurant doesn't necessarily mean lazy staff. Some are intelligent enough to understand that the totally stressed out waiter/waitress most likely are being plagued by some Brits treating them like uncivilised natives being unable to understand what they demand.

I hear the master race all the time wherever I go. They always seem to speak s l o w e r and LOUDER to make sure they're understood and to get what they want. They really think people are less worth than themselves. Thank God they're a minority among tourists in general. Sadly a majority of them seem to have invaded Cyprus.

Be nice, treat people with respect and you will receive the very same treatment back! It's that simple.

Good post as always Agios Ionas .... :D

I think at the bottom of the Brits' problem with expectations and treatment meted out to natives when they are the "fee-paying-customer" is the Class-ridden culture from which they hail...

Most of the Brits who come to Cyprus tend to be from the lower classes, who have made easy money over the good years, so consider themselves Middle class (even though they lack basic decorum) ... so when they get the chance away from home to transiently forget their relatively lower "station in life" ... It's pay back time as far as they are concerned, and their chance to Lord it over everyone else ...

You seem to be talking from personal experience. I used to have a restaurant in a major UK tourist city, let me tell you what I found. The Italians were the noisiest, the Russians were the rudest, the French were very polite as were the Germans and Americans. Different destinations attract different "classes" of tourist I suppose - the more tatoos the ruder the tourist

I'm sure no one has stopped you riding a donkey JoJo or have you been forced to own a car, but when you speak of we I'm sure you don't speak for the majority. Can't see the masses giving up their Mercs or pick ups for an ass.

I suppose Bubbles is destined to remain in the kitchen with Milti. Evidently my popularity is waning. Even O prefers me. What have I done to deserve that?
