It's funny that you should mention being happier if we were still riding donkeys. My late father wrote a book about his life and time in the RAF during WW2. He did quite well for himself in business in the UK but on the last page he came to the conclusion that he would have been happier had he stayed in Cyprus living the simple life.

I think the attitude of many tourists all over the world is that the locals should wipe their arses, it doesn't only apply to Brits.

As I said in an earlier post, it is two way traffic. The Cypriots have "plundered" the UK too. My uncle once said that his brothers should remember that the houses they had built for their retirement were bought with "tax free" money earned in the UK. The Turks stole the houses that they had built with money "stolen" from the British taxpayer.

JoJo .. did you know the Brits stripped Cyprus of it's most precious mineral deposits before they "left" ...

I think you got your money's worth out of the UK education system so why complain - hang on though that is your destiny, to slag off the hand that fed you.

The fact is that all the bolshy attitude is not really apparent in real life here in Cyprus, just in forum life. I think me, Bill and Bubbles simply get on with life here and respect what we have and the people that are intelligent enough to see us for what we are, not just pinky colonial Brits.

The pinky Brits do exist however and I find the pompous colonial Brit abhorrent but we don't all have the same attitude.

Sorry Niki ... I mostly had American sponsorship ... 8)

As for the other Cypriots going through the UK system ... I am sure their parents more than contributed to the rising economic growth (unprecedented) from the 60's to now!

So we both have got something out of our adopted countries. Many Cypriots exploit Brits (and Russians etc) which may just be why there are so many migrants here. People like you and your family exploited - or at least shared benefits from the UK. Lets call it quits! 8)

My whole point, the world has opened up and people are 'sharing' benefits from each other's countries of birth. All natural progress.

They certainly did JoJo. Both countries owe each other a lot, I wonder what sort of shape the Cyprus economy would be in were it not for the income from British tourists and, more recently, residents.

The Cyprus economy would be doing rather well without the British thank you !!
We would be riding donkeys that require no petrol thus saving money we never had in the first place !!!

Oracle pull yourself out of your 'living in the past' and catch up - FYI -this is the 21st century!

If you hate the UK so much, pray tell us why you still have 'business interests' there? OK to slag it off but happy to take the money? How two faced is that? You rant and rave about the UK so much yet it took you 40plus years to leave. That I cannot comprehend.

GET A LIFE AND TRY SAYING SOMETHING POSITIVE FOR ONCE IN YOUR OBVIOUS BORING EXISTENCE!
