Millions Leave Britain ..... Mass Exodus!

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

Some folks claim they are leaving the UK because of a crime epidemic and lack of protection and support from the police force. Nothing could be further from the truth:

I wonder whom this journalist had in mind when writing this in today's Independent ...

London liberals – who know all there is to know about garam masala – turn into curtain-twitching neighbourhood watchers, ungenerous towards migrants and refugees, voluble Little England protectionists. And these days the most fanatical holders of prejudices against new migrants and refugees are old migrants and refugees.

humanist, it might be a little unfair to describe the exodus as 'Rats leaving a sinking ship' since they do seem to be aware of their destinations (unlike the rats who merely disembark and hope for the best.)

Perhaps a visual notion of the 'Once Great' nation's populace, riding off into the sunset might be more of a descriptive kindness.

Hopefully they will not do too much damage wherever they may roam or settle.

No more or less than they have ever done I don't think.

If the UK had to have back all their departed retirees and take care of them it's services woul;d probably collapse.

The retirees who move abroad tend to be the ones with money. A pensioner who only has the state pension to live on could hardly afford to move to Cyprus!

The mass exodus is worldwide. People are more able and more inclined to try different countries no matter where they are from. Students study abroad, people find work in other countries and retirees want a better lifestyle and who can blame them for wanting their retirement to be as good as it could be after a lifetime of working hard.

Brits are moving to Cyprus and many Cypriots are moving to Britain and other countries. It's happening all over the world so may as well get used it it!

Get the picture Milt dear. Cricket is a no-no! Personally I love the game, especially the likes of the 20-20 games when the limited overs are coming to an end and the batsmen start taking big risks; going all out for 4's and 6's! You can almost feel the tension in the air, BRILLIANT I tell you, BRILLIANT!

Of course, if England win it is an added bonus to an enjoyable days viewing

Excellent post but I will disagree with the part I've highlighted in red .

I know quite a few oap's that have moved to Cyprus with just their old age pension ~ lets take the average 65 year old as example.

They have worked all their lives paid for the family home and possibly saved a little nest egg ~ the options available to them are :-

To stay where they are in a house that's really to big and possibly to costly in their retirement.

To downsize to a more physically and financially manageable property and put the rest in the bank so they can enjoy their retirement by dipping into the saving when they need to.

To move abroad ~ sell in the UK buy a two bed apartment in a place with a better climate and more than possible to be able to live on the old age pension if they are careful and of course using the interest from their saving to supplement living costs and the extras that always pop up.

Of course someone who's lived in a council house all their lives and pissed up their earnings against the pub wall will be committed to struggling with the state system til the end of their days .

The UK is mainly a nation of home owners so there's a hell of a lot of usable capital there .

As Bill says, anyone who owns a property in the UK and sells it would well be able to afford to live in cyprus or probably any other EU country. The sale of their UK property should be more than enough to buy a property outright and they then have at least £90 a week to live on plus their £200 a year fuel allowance.
Agreed they would not live like kings but they would probably be living better than they would in the UK on that income.
