For MY car approximately per year:
road Tax: 150Euro
insurance: 150Euro
Service: 350Euro
Petrol: Currently about 100Euro per month

It ALL depends on what car it is, how much you drive and where you drive! Insurance depends on your personal data also. The smaller the car engine the less road tax and less insurance. If running costs are an issue then don't buy a car with an engine bigger than 1.6 litters. Service depends on the brand of the car. How much petrol you use depends on the car, on how you drive and where you drive.

Yeah, but the 'much of Scotland' you refer to is inhabited by three sheep, four deer, and a grouse. Even places like Skye and Torridon have better bus services than anywhere in Cyprus. And the public transport in the towns is excellent. I lived there for years without needing a car. Not sure I could survive over here without one.

Thank you to both Sotos and Sega, that was the info I needed. :D Neither of you say how many miles you do in a year, so it hard to compare, but still helpful. I live in Paphos and can no longer drive, so don't have a car - and to Short & Fat, it is perfectly possible to manage without a car if you live near the tourist bus route and the town - I moved house for that purpose. When I had a car I did keep a check of how much it was costing me, but didn't think I needed to keep that information. However, people tell me I can have an awful ot of taxi rides for what it costs to run a car, and I wanted to find out just HOW many. Even at Sotos's rate, it IS a lot - I could go to the airport over 600 times in a year! :o So I must learn to be less stingy! At present I rarely use a taxi, I walk most places, bus sometimes and quite often get lifts from kind friends. :)
