Car running costs

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

I think 20% is more than a 'marginal difference in price'; ask anyone in the UK if they would think a price reduction of 20 pence per litre would be worthwhile!

Don't forget there are large areas of the UK without public transport; Scotland alone is 4 times larger than Cyprus and much of Scotland is without public transport - and public transport here (buses, service taxis etc) is much cheaper than the UK. One stop on the London 'underground' cost £4 me last time I was there!

I will stick with my cheap Cyprus petrol, even if the thin hot air and blasting a/c in the car means I do not get many kilometres to the litre!

Road tax? My cars range from £34 to £285 (whatever the Euro equivelant is), it is based on engine capacity.

You just won't give up will you.

I went to Scotland, I went by train. It was nice. Anyway, I remember back in the day when I use to fill my suzuki up with 10 pounds, now it needs 30. This is something silly like a 8 year period. Petrol has gone up greatly. Petrol keeps going up and up, and I feel it will go higher than the UK.

Yep, London sucks. I been there twice, everything is dead expensive. I got loads of relatives there. Anyway,

But ye, in the UK I use to work in my town, now I have to go to Nicosia because jobs in my field are scares, not to mention low salery everywhere else. :-(

MOT = £15, it is done on all unregistered cars. My road tax cost my £165. Come to think of it, it needs renewing.

I wasn't just thinking of the cost of fuel, but overall running cost - maintenance, insurance, tax/licence and whatever other costs a car incurs in Cyprus as well. I hoped maybe some efficient person kept a record of what their car cost to run. :?:

It depends, my advise is have a small car, particular if your bringing your vehicle from abroad. 1.4 is ideal. I saved something like 2K by brining my car from England, so your might consider it. Japanese cars are cheap to service and run, parts are cheap here as many people have Japanese. Just to you know the fashion is German.

Yeah, but the 'much of Scotland' you refer to is inhabited by three sheep, four deer, and a grouse. Even places like Skye and Torridon have better bus services than anywhere in Cyprus. And the public transport in the towns is excellent. I lived there for years without needing a car. Not sure I could survive over here without one.
