Cypriot developers-take note!

Postby Shipwreck » Tue Jun 10, 2008 7:10 am

The IMF declares that Spanish property is overvalued by 20 per cent, Spain's big 14 developers announce that sales are down by 70 per cent on average, and 140,000 estate agencies go out of business. For those prepared to take a long-term view, now could be the time to buy in Spain.

Coming to Cyprus, very soon....

House sales in the UK are at their lowest level for 30 years.
Prices are going to go lower everywhere for some time to come.

Property is falling all over the world, it is a cyclical thing which happened many times in the past and will happen just as many in the future.

The other thing that Spain is doing and which should be looked at very carefully by every Mediterranean country is the demolition of buildings along the coast and coastal rehabilitation. For an island like Cyprus with much smaller coast line than Spain the move makes a lot of sense.

Maybe in the new constution which will come about with the solution there should be a clasue like the one in the Greek constitution which guarantees access to the sea as a civil right. No private beaches, no blocking off paths to the beach, no building within 40 meters from the waterline.

Lanzarote in the Canaries, has some very interesting building practices, Cyprus should have a look at them, maybe get a Cypriot version of Cesar Manrique to start making a fuss.

Absolutely agree with N's points . So much of the RoC coast has been ruined by overdevelopment.

As a Spaniard I had dedicated several posts to this matter. All the times I look at the developings in Cyprus it remind me what happens in Spain let's say 7 years ago. Hope that your nice country will not conitune following our path. You can see it was wrong and has driven our country to the actual crisis.

Good luck
