Would any nice member of the northern community please kindly translate the following in to Tr for me so that I can ask it of Mr T ?
Greetings Brother T, from Bill Cobbett of London, England. I hope you are well. Would you please tell me when you're going to tell the occupation army of the RoT to bugger off back to Tr ?
Thank You
Bill, it is good at this stage to learn that in a legal and historical sense, there isn't any northern community -nor any southern one for this matter, in Cyprus. There are only the Greek Cypriot and the Turkish Cypriot communities, and these community terms do not encompass any territorial or geographical attributes or characteristics! Equating the TC community with the notion of being the "northern community," is tantamount to giving legitimate substance to the ethnic cleansing of the GCs from the occupied north, to the illegal usurpation of their belongings there, and the attempted eradication by the Turkish side of their heritage rights stemming from this (northern, illegally occupied) part of Cyprus! I know you did not do so intentionally, however it is always better to maintain the proper terminology and symbolism when dealing with the Cyprus issue!
Forgive me for not being in total agreement with you on this one K but I do acknowledge and thank you for your (quite correct) qualification on the the unintentionality of any implied legitimisation of the despicable state of affairs in Cy from 1974 to the present day by my use of certain descriptive terms.
May I say that I despise the nationalism that is the cause of so many problems throughout the world, so for me to take your advise on using the generally accepted terms that you refer to and which I acknowledge almost everyone else uses to differentiate between the people that live north of the buffer zone in the Occupied Districts from those that live to the south of it, in the Free Areas, would imply my support for the nationalism I despise, by the use of adjectives derived from the names of three nations. It may be worthy of note that I rarely, if ever, use the term "southern community"; but often, some would say at every opportunity (including this one!) will use the terms Occupied Territories and the Free Areas, so I would argue that I have got the balance of the "symbolism", as you call it, about right. In fact, now I think of it, I may have taken this symbolism to the next level and that is one of the benefits of people thinking a little bit differently.
I would also say that these phrases that you urge the use of are divisive, a left over from the former colonial masters, are well past their sell-by dates in the New Europe and benefit no one except the partitionists who look to their "motherlands" and the foreign powers who seek to divide the Island for their own benefit.
(PS K. If the worse comes to the worst I may be in agreement with your signature.)
