Reports: Talat snubs UN dinner with Cyprus President

By Alethea Reynolds 08.JUN.08
The fallout over a memorandum signed between the government and Britain could lead
to the cancellation of a social dinner organised by UN official Lynn Pascoe.

CyBC state radio reported that the Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat has refused to attend the dinner, which was billed as a "social gathering" of Talat, President Christofias and Lynn Pascoe and was to take place on June 17.

According to BRT in northern Cyprus, Mr Talat has said the memorandum would harm the common views reached between him and President Christofias.

Mr Talat strongly condemned Britain, saying this kind of an approach would not help find a comprehensive solution to the Cyprus problem.

He also added that the Turkish Cypriot Side is against Britain’s recent attitude towards the Cyprus problem.

On Thursday, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and President Demetris Christofias signed a memorandum of understanding which made a reference to "a federation based on a bi-communal and bi-zonal structure".

Do you realise Mr Talat , poor chap , is the only "President" in the world that is not recognised as such by ANY NATION .He is however the elected leader of the T/C Community , unfortunately , and the T/Cs are aware of this , he can not carry out the slightest activity unless Turkey first endorses it. Effectively as we all know , Turkey runs the show and Mr Talat is merely a front stooge .

Take note that you can speak for yourself but please don’t throw around statements like that on behalf of all other Greek Cypriots. Property of deceased refugees is automatically transferable to their children and fully entitled to it.

   uncle GR you are very right as above. I realise the right of entitlement. I was merely saying that a great number who have been born outside Cyprus particularly Australia who are not knowledgeable about Cypriot laws will just relinquish the properties as its all to hard. My cousins for example they can't even speak greek, haven't been to Cyprus for over 20 years and will never boter. They'll be lucky if their parents sort it out for them, the rest will be history. I am no by no means donating anything to anyone.

There are dozens of cases pending before the ECHR from Australian refugees. This is a fact. The first Ozzie cases will be heard within 2 years.

No Australian refugee will relinquish their property rights. Even if they do not understand Cypriot laws, the information they require is only a phone call away or on the WWW.

As for your cousins, when they grow and mature they will also realise that their heritage is worth fighting for.

Well, try again mate/matess and this time try and put down what you want to say in a way that won't run the risk of getting deleted.

So I see Mr talat is being the progressive leader that TC's deserve. He decided not to attend a meeting with the UN representative. Because he doesn't like the fact that the President of Cyprus signed an MOU with Britain. So how long is this game to go on Mr Talat. How long will you place your constituents under the Turkish occupation and isolation. It is a real shame you do not respond to this forum.
