Are we willing to share our country with Turkey?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Welcome to the forum Kentish, good post, hit the problem on the head.

Please stop encouraging rude and inconsiderate posts,VP...kentish is out of order...if he has a problem with Piratis' post he can put up his arguments in a temperate language...How else are going to get to understand and respect each other's point of view????

No Birkibrisli, Kentish and Viewpoint are spot on as they are both realists. The trouble with you and and the majority of the deluded Rumlar on this site is that you're living in a dream world. I have posted topics on this site based on genuine compromise but consistently get abused for it. You can't negotiate with people like that. Everything that they spout is akin to telling the Turkish Cypriot community, 'Remove your life jacket and everything will be allright' ! Well no thank you.

Oh on second thoughts, let's return to a unitary state with a 'Cypriot' National Guard and be booted out again from all organs of government. Let's squeeze 18% of the island's population into 5% of the island's territory. Let's abrogate the Treaty of Guarantee. Let's stop Turkish Cypriot buses 5 times on a trip from Lefkosa to Terra and sexually abuse the women passengers and assault those Turkish Cypriot male passengers who can't speak Greek. Let's arbitrarily abduct Turkish Cypriots and make them disappear. Let's put a gun to the head of a Turkish Cypriot for having the audacity to return to his looted home in Kaymakli whilst he was attempting to salvage what was left of his belongings. Let's eradicate all Turkish writing from official documentation, sign-posts etc. Let's prevent a very sick Turkish Cypriot child from attending Nicosia General Hospital. Let's bulldoze a mosque and build a car park on it. Oh yeah and for good measure let's kill Turkish Cypriots for steadfastly refusing to bow to us and accept a 'minority status'.

Yes, Kibrisli, Oracle, Piratis et al,

'Remove your life jacket and everything will be allright.'

The enosis dream started well before 1958 the TMT was in direct response to eoka terrorists.

Muzzy, terrible things were done by both sides, there is no doubt about that.
The question is have we learned our lessons?? Are we prepared to show understanding and compassion towards each other...???Has the world around us changed enough to make a repeat of the past attrocities impossible????

After all we went through as Cypriots, can we now acknowledge our mistakes, ask forgiveness and move on???Can we now embrace each other as Cypriots first and foremost and put the interests of our homeland first????

Are we mature enough now to see how we were played one against the other, divided and ruled, and how this is still continuing???And so on and so forth...The answers you will give to these questions will determine your attitude to the future...I would answer in the affirmative to all these questions, with some reservations in certain areas...But I will not blame you if you answer in the negative...I understand where you are coming from..and I respect your decision as long as it is a sincerely held belief and not based on any expectant real or imaginary gain ....

With safeguards and a level playing field of the 2 sides a lot can be achieved but seeing this is not the GC dream they will do everything within their power to get what they want a GC unitary state with us the TCs as foreigners in our country.
