Halil, why didn't I hear you complaining when Turkey signed a memorandum with the UK a couple of months ago with decisions taken FOR the TC's?

Turkey is another country my dear friend . They can do what ever they want rest of the world but UK as a garantor power of the Cyprus .they have to asked to TC's as well .When they are going to talk about Cyprus .

they can not do anything what both leaders are decided at 23 may with the attendance of the UN observation .

Halil, I have sent you a PM. Did you receive it?

Tell talat to request from President Christofias his position as VP and he will get asked next time.

Here is how the news came out from the Turkish Daily News about Memerandum .

Britain, Greek Cyprus signal closer ties as leaders meet
Friday, June 6, 2008
LONDON - Agence France-Presse

Britain's Prime Minister Gordon Brown gave fulsome praise to visiting Greek Cypriot President Demetris Christofias Thursday, indicating a warming of fractious ties between the two European Union states.

After a 30-minute meeting at Brown's Downing Street offices, the British leader said Christofias, elected president in February, had been instrumental in efforts to reunify the divided Mediterranean island.

"He has shown vision and political courage, reaching out to the Turkish Cypriot community and its leader, inspiring hope in Cyprus both sides of the green line," Brown told reporters.

Cyprus has been divided along ethnic lines since 1974 when Turkey intervened in its northern third in response to an Athens-engineered Greek Cypriot coup aimed at union with Greece.

Brown reaffirmed British support for reconciliation and a "joint and lasting settlement which has evaded us for too long", saying: "It is right to seek a solution by Cypriots, for Cypriots."

Christofias said that he wants Britain to play a "strong and supportive" role in the United Nations-backed process, Brown added.

Cyprus has often criticised its former colonial ruler for showing bias to Turkey when it comes to solving the island's three-decade-old division. The presence of 10,000 British troops and dependents there is also sensitive.

Relations plunged to a new low in 2006, when Christofias's predecessor, Tassos Papadopoulos, refused to meet Britain's then-foreign secretary Jack Straw after he insisted on meeting the Turkish Cypriot President Mehmet Ali Talat.

Straw – now justice secretary and a close ally of Brown – also faced protests telling him to "go home."

An attempt to mend fences collapsed in October last year when Greek Cyprus objected to a deal signed by London with Ankara that envisaged high-level contacts with northern Cyprus.

Christofias himself once described Britain as Cyprus's "bad demon" due to a popular perception that London works against the interests of Greek Cypriots.

But he said talks with Brown Thursday were "friendly" and emphasised the two nations' "common interests" – the sizeable Greek Cypriot expat community in Britain and other links such as tourism – and their "close ties."

They also signed a memorandum of understanding to ensure the development of what Brown said was a "strong, forward-looking and meaningful relationship".

Britain's Europe minister, Jim Murphy, is to visit Cyprus in the coming weeks, he added.

"I am committed and I promised the people of Cyprus that I will do my utmost in order to make the relationship between our two countries better, closer and more developed," Christofias said at a brief joint news conference.

Thursday's talks were a chance to build on a previous meeting in Brussels and to "make our co-operation more concrete", he said, adding that he hoped for more regular, even daily, exchanges.

Christofias said the talks touched on Turkey's accession to the European Union, which Britain strongly supports. He reaffirmed Nicosia's backing also, subject to conditions concerning northern Cyprus.

Halil can you stop posting those badly written anecdotes from Bayrak.

They really do insult the rest of us English speaking forumers who are quite capable of reading decent articles from proper legitimate journals, on-line.

They serve no purpose other than exemplify how unprofessional you are at the illegal Bayrak Turkish Propaganda Publishers.

I wonder what those 'conditions' will be for the TRNC in the event of failed negotiations ? I understand that Ali Babacan, during his visit to the US informed Condoleeza Rice that there, will be a change of staus for the TRNC were the talks to fail. I have been reliably informed that the US, 'will not stand in the way or object to what would be the legitimate demand of the Turkish Cypriot community to take its place amongst the community of nations in such an eventuality.'

I have been shot at many times by the more neanderthal GC members on this forum for previously suggesting that recognition of the TRNC will be inevitable were negotiations to fail. I am now more convinced than ever that 'Cyprus' is drinking in the last chance saloon.

Please don't speak as though you represent the whole of the forum. If you despise the articles so much, why read them? Go back to trawling the net for bad things about Turkey - it's what you do best
