IT job search (for non-EU citizen)

Postby -Slash- » Wed Jun 04, 2008 2:57 pm

hello to All !

My name is Daniel and I am looking for job at Cyprus (Nicosia) , IT field prefered.

I have extensive experience in the following areas: quality assurance, system administration, support tasks , assembling and easy repair of pc and supported electronics etc.

+ basic knowledge of programming (C#, SQL, Perl, bash, batch) , databases (MS SQL server, MySQL, Oracle) , Web-administration (apache server, drupal cms and so on) , unix-like os (linux, free-bsd) and much more.

But , unfortunately , I am not a EU citizen and I don't know Greek for present time.

So how do you think do I have any chances to get job at Cyprus ?

Thank you for your answers if they will be :)

Best Regards
Daniel

Even if I were to overlook your non-EU status, I’d say you have as much chance as I would have getting a job in YOUR country without being able to communicate with colleagues and customers in their mother tongue.

I understand that language problem much serious than even non-EU status, but I heard that the English language is widely distributed in the territory of Cyprus, and is likely to have international companies with multi-language staff and customers.

Not the IT industry in Cyprus mate which is small and like 95% Cypriot run/owned and Greek speaking. We have nothing to do with tourists or the relatively few foreign companies, most of which bring their own in-house IT person anyway. The only time foreign companies look to Cypriot IT is to purchase hardware.

Cyprus may seem "international" around the tourist beach areas but don't let that confuse you with the real bread basket which is the thousands of Greek Cypriot small businesses, and government departments, which prefer to be looked after by Greek speaking crew.

You may have a better chance of getting such a job in Limassol as there are numerous offshore companies operating without greek. Nicosia maybe more difficult, but as I have been told there are some companies that do operate in english only.

You first problem would be a visa as you are non EU and then you may have to secure a job before you come, not sure on this.

good luck either way

Amdocs Limassol

With your experience Amdocs, Limassol will consider your application even if you're not EU.

They are always in search of Quality Assurance engineers (mostly, but also developers) and they pay fair.

????

I suppose you work there if you know so good. Been there for far more than 6 month in which period only one person was kicked out.

After 3 years they did announce 5% layoffs and obviously they also went through the procedure.

"Every 6 month" is an undocumented rumour.

I dont praise the company, I just give a tip that his profile might find a match to this company. The fact that he doesn't hold an EU passport weights a great deal when trying to get employment in Cyprus.
