INTERNET ON THE MOVE

Postby sylvia » Mon Jun 02, 2008 7:07 pm

I have been trying to get some info from areeba about their usb modem for mobile internet.

They were not very forthcoming.

Can anybody tell me how I can use my laptop in cyprus without a landline and using my cypriot mobile sim card.

Just remembered Silvia - if you're in Larnaca - go down to the tourist promenade ( Finigouthes ), several of the restaurants/bars there have free wi-fi internet access for their customers ( and others within range).

for informaton try here http://www.cytamobile-vodafone.com/ or for mtn www.mtn.com.cy

when i was using mtn contract i used to net for like 5 mins and it cost like 8 euro but with cyta i was on for ages and it wasent costing much

you can send the internet settings to ur mobile you can send a free text msage with both cyta and mtn and recieve the settings or call them still free to do, they have the number on their web site where u can send a text, or if you have cyta you can send the settings from the web site ( sign up needed )

For Cyta...........

Write in a text message "on mms" and sent it to the number 8000. If your mobile supports it, you
will receive settings that you can accept to have access to the full potential of mms messages.
Switch off and back on your mobile. You can now send mms messages.

Message:
Send an SMS message with the wording [ON WAP] to 8000.

For MTN:----------------

To obtain MMS settings via SMS please send a message to 8855 with text MMS (this message is free of charge)

To obtain WAP settings via SMS please send a message to 8855 with the text WAP (this message is free of charge), the WAP settings will automatically be sent to your handset, These settings should be saved once received.

prices for both can be found on the links ^^

Hi all, I have a related question, hope I can draw on your collective techy wisdom! I'm visiting Coral Bay area shortly and was hoping to bring my wifi laptop. I know there used to be an internet cafe in the main street there, but was wondering about my chances of using wifi from the villa where I'm staying (no landline available to me). Are these ipass type schemes any good? So far, the only hotspot I've been able to locate is Starbucks in Paphos, but I'm gonna be too far away.

Yes, just checked the soeasy (Cyta) site and mobile data is 27.5 new cents per 100kb.

Thanks for that PalioM.
