below map clearly shows before 1974 where TC's setteled and lands they did have .from the map you can clearly see . İn north There was a Turkish Cypriots lands . İts means all the lands does not belongs to GC's .
you are always misinforming world . No one is occupping TC's lands at North . We have every rights to build up hotels or otherthings in our lands .
also There are TC's lands in South .They are all valuable like GC's has in South .No one is denying that GC's hasn't got a property in North .Yes they have but you must learn that TC's has got as well .

There are huge differences:

1) The TCs wanted partition since the 50s, and continue to want it. they were not driven out of their homes by force, they left voluntarily in order to achieve their dream of partition.

2) The attachment of TCs to the lands they originally inhabited is apparently much less to the attachment of GCs to their own lands. This is maybe because GCs have a way longer history on those lands, while the TCs arived relatively much more recently.

3) The TCs are 18% of the population and they grabbed twice as much in the north (36%). Something tells me that if they had grabbed half (9%) instead of double (36%) then partition wouldn't suit them as much.

Also there are differences in how the properties of TCs are handled in the free areas and how the properties of GCs are handled in the occupied areas.

In the free areas the properties of TCs were not given to anybody else. TCs are the only ones who hold titles for them. Most of those properties sit idle waiting for a solution to the Cyprus problem so the TC can take them back, although there are ways for TCs to take them back even before a solution.

If any of those properties was used this was done either (a) to temporarily house refugees, who will leave and go back to their own homes once a solution is found, or (b) that they were expropriated by the goverment to build roads, shcools etc, just like the properties of all citizens are sometimes expropriated for these reasons.

On the other hand the properties of GCs in the occupied are all stolen.
The occupation regime issued new fake title deeds and gave them to TCs, Turkish Settlers and foreigners.

OK the Turks you say have been wanting partition since 1950. And the greeks wanted Union with Greece since when??? Piratis oh Piratis, why always the same old tune.

Ive read about some "abandoned" villages, (i think it was near Polis?!) are all TC property's & lands untouched by any developement or such, as has been claimed in above post's?

TCs are free to claim their properties in the south. The same can not be said of the GCs as they are prevented from claiming their properties in the north.

About 90% of the land now occupied, belongs to GCs.

Not true GCs can apply to the Property commission who has settled many cases either by financial compensation or restitution. Their leaders have told them not to do this as it would be treason and in part recognize the TRNC.

Yeh right. The GCs have the right to apply to a "trnc" court which is not recognised by anyone except for Turkey who is responsible for stealing and ethnically cleansing 160,000 GCs.

How the hell do you expect justice from an illegitimate and criminal court?

Turkish Cypriots left few homes but GCs were forced out leaving many more in the occupied Cyprus. Many GCs' homes were sold by the Turkish, but no Turkish Cypriot homes were sold by GCs in free-Cyprus.

After the Turkish invasion, abandoned Turkish Cypriot properties were taken over by the Guardian of Turkish Cypriot properties, which will return them upon a solution of the political problem.

He reiterated the government line that Turkish Cypriots could claim their property if they permanently settled in the free areas.

“If there are any difficulties or disagreements they could appeal in court against any decision made by the Guardian of Turkish Cypriot properties,” the spokesman said.

Chrysostomides said the Republic provided shelter to all Turkish Cypriots intending to stay.

Commenting on Turkish actions to bypass the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) on the issue of properties, Chrysostomides said there was no possibility the ECHR would accept such an arrangement.

Foreign Minister George Iacovou, who flew to Strasbourg yesterday, confirmed that the Turkish side was trying hard to bypass the ECHR.

The issue we were discussing was the issue of who owns what land in the north. Before 1974, there was a lot of Turkish Cypriot owned land which some have denied or overlook.

The 'illegal' selling of GC land and property is deplorable and does not help the TC cause an Iota. This I agree with. (especially the double dippers).

Thank you for understanding about this selling of GC properties. CanDiaz was also asking about abandoned TC properties which are much less than the many more the GCs had to leave. But thank you again for saying how bad it is for the Turkish to sell GC properties. :)

Ofcourse it is bad, especially if property was given to people's other than TC's! But given the isolation of the North, this was only to be expected. You cant make a country "Illegal" then expect them to act according to the "law", that doesn't recognise them.
How did it ever go so wrong? (& dont say that 18% of the population all of a sudden decided to take on the remainder, in a head to head.)

I sincerely hope you are not blaming the TCs for having less land/property than the GCs. Until 1974 the GCs have always had their numerical superiority to their advantage. This ofcousrse does not make a wrong, right.

Thank you CanDiaz for taking interest in the illegalities. But we did not make the "country" illegal. It was right away illegal by international law as an occupied territory. Sorry we did not make the laws. :) It is too big a history lesson to see where it went wrong. But today we have an illegality with the occupation which is our concern to solve.

To give the properties to TCs as you suggest has happened but there were many more GC properties in the north, too many to fill with the fewer TCs and that is where they have profited so much by having many more houses than TCs can fill. So they sold them or filled with settlers. That is a further illegality by international law. Do you agree? :)
