kasoulides a fan of sampson apparently

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

kasoulides a fan of sampson apparently

from todays cyprus-mail coffeeshop

WERE THE adulatory words Ioannis Kas wrote for the memorial service of Nicos Sampson last weekend part of the effort to promote his new, hard-line, political persona, was it a genuine expression of his admiration for the man or was he just repeating what Loukis P told him to say?

He said among other things: “Everyone has an obligation to recognise the man’s faith and determination, his heroism and love of country, the self-denial of the fighter… Nicos Sampson could not stay on the sidelines, during the difficult years of the Turkish Cypriot mutiny and their armed uprising. Again he organised groups to protect the unarmed population which was at the mercy of the mob in Omorphita.”

Who would have thought that a man seeking to become presidente was a fan of the guy sentenced to 20 years in prison for his part in the overthrow of the elected presidente.

turkkan, according to some Bananiots the term "extremist" has now changed meaning. Now that term does not refer to those who support crimes and illegalities, it refers to those who support democracy and human rights and reject things like human rights violations, ethnic cleansing and racist discrimination and segregation.

kassoulides, ran as the "european way" of solving our problems, ...

...something like sampson, (more of the same) with intrigue, violence, and betrayal.

Hurray for democracy therefore, because the "Greeks", his electorate he would like to say,

did not choose him, they chose a way "from the ground up".

Would Kasoulides have made that speech if he had been elected president? Probably not. Which should make us all think of the motives of people in seeking elected office. Always be suspicious of politicians. There must be a strong element of ego in people who choose politics as a career.

All extremists have a mentor that was an even more, ego-maniacal extremist.

Hitler's was Kemal Ataturk ....

...easy now,

King was an "extremist" and his mentor was Ghandi (perhaps a greater extremist).

"extremist" is not necessarily the problem...
