GREEK CYPRIOT UNITED DEMOCRATS VISIT CTP

Postby halil » Sat May 31, 2008 5:34 pm

A delegation from the Greek Cypriot United Democrats Movement-EDI headed by acting chairman Praxoulla Antoniadou Kyriacou paid a visit to the Republican Turkish Party CTP today.

CTP leader-Prime Minister Ferdi Soyer, the CTP’s Foreign Relations Secretary Unal Findik, the CTP’s Organization Secretary Ozkan Yorgancioglu, CTP executive committee member Huseyin Inan, Michalis Papapetrou, Christos Neoclous, Spyros Hajigregoriou and Koullis Avraam from EDI were present at the one and half hour long meeting held at the Republican Turkish Party headquarters in Lefkosa(Nicosia).

A joint statement read out by the represenatives of the two parties at the end of the meeting expressed support to the ongoing talks between the two leaders.

Speaking to reporters at the end of the meeting, CTP leader-Prime Minister Soyer said that they had held a fruitful meeting with EDI party officials and had reached an understanding on supporting the two leaders’ efforts in finding a solution to the Cyprus Problem.

He also said both parties shared the common view on the need to find a speedy solution to the Cyprus Problem and had taken a joint decision to do all that is necessary to support the ongoing process.

Also speaking, the acting leader of EDI, Praxoulla Kyriacou said that they had found the opportunity to exchange views on the latest developments on the Cyprus Problem as well as the ongoing talks between the two leaders.

“As the United Democrats we would like to emphasize that this is another important opportunity for Cypriots to discuss and reunite the country” said Kyriacou.

Pointing out that there has been an important change in the mindset of the political leadership in the South with the election of Demetris Christofias as the new Greek Cypriot leader, the EDI acting leader expressed EDI’s support to the process of negotiations started by the two leaders.

“We strongly encourage them to continue firmly and with courage during this process towards the aim of achieving a bi-communal, bi-zonal federation with political equality as defined within the relevant UN resolutions.”

Pointing out that time was of an essence, the EDI leader underlined the importance of utilizing the opportunity that lies ahead.

“The leaders have to respond to the expectations that the people have of them. They have a responsibility to respond. So we strongly encourage them to proceed as quickly as possible and we expect that we will see the appointment of a special representative of the UN Secretary General of the United Nations to speed up direct negotiations” she added.

DT also thinks that the truth is a matter of statistics. Its a pity because he is a bright fellow and I am sure he can do better.

I'm just wondering what the point is in visiting tc parties, for a party which basically represents its family members?

A bunch of guys call themselves a party, are on the receiving end of a little govt funding given out to all parties and hey presto! They never have to get a proper job again.

Mr Papapetrou especially has done well for himself through all this.

 EDI are still around? After being voted right out of the house, I thought they ALL turned to a life of crime selling cheap sophistry to promote the partition of Cyprus...

Very mean on you DT. What do you know about Papapetrou that we do not know? Papapetrou is an accomplished lawyer and runs a very successful business. You may disagree with someone but you have no right to throw mad.

P.S. I wonder if you know that Papapetrou knew your late father-in-law. He can tell you a story or two about the adjectives he used to describe a has been president of the banana republic.

WHy do you aways assume that if i don't like any of "your" type of people that I am immediately a hardcore supporter of Papadopoulos? Its a bit like Bush saying if you're not with us you're against us. I never supported Papadopoulos and I completely disagree with the beliefs of has-been parties (and I am being very kind by labelling it a party) such as EDI.
