Hey, steady on.

Now your asking for trouble!

If I did not understand that other Cypriots look at Pafos with green envy, I would be giving you the Paphitico treatment.

Thank your lucky stars that I can appreciate the fact that in Cyprus there are 2 types of Cypriots.

Paphites and wannabe Paphites.

But then again, in every flock there is a black sheep. And our black sheep is Miltiades.

What about our Oracle? Is she real or a wanabee?

Oh Oh. Now you have done it!

I hope you are ducking for cover Deniz!

What wrong with asking? I will be told the TRUTH and thats it. I suspect she hails from the Tylliria region (maybe wrong here) but would like to know if the Tyllirians are also Paphians too. I think mother Oracle lives in Paphos but you never know, what with population movements since the 1950's.

I have new post. Should I duck?

Re Deniz,

I thought that the TRUTH only came from Halil.

imo what Halil pens personally is the truth. What he cuts and pastes, that is a different matter. He is only disseminating info from the Northern Press. Personally I welcome it. Its a pity the same can not be done from the GC side. Our only source from the Cyprus Mail is usually frowned upon by most GCs.

The Cyprus mail is not considered high standard journalism in RoC. It is more of a tabloid. Probably not the best of sources.

As we say " denize dusen yilana sarilir". If you fall into the sea, you hold on anything you can (in this case a snake). Its a pity as I would love to read more from the Greek press and not erely Turkish translations from the TC media.

Deniz,

These newspapers are probably much better sources for political opinion:

You are able to use the "Translate this page" function from google.

Thanks Bafidis. Are these papers supporters of any kind of politics? Left or right wing or neutral(boring)

I will have a go, but need to look into the Google bit.

Thanks again

The abovementioned 2 papers are more neutral, however Phileleftheros is known to allign itself with the government of the day.

http://www.haravgi.com.cy/

http://www.politis-news.com/

Haravgi is a politically alligned newspaper. It leans towards the left wing or AKEL.

As for Politis, I am not certain as to it's affiliations.

Once you start monitoring the GC media, you will notice that the journalism is quite colorful and of reasonably high calibre when it comes to political pieces.

You are also able to use the translate function from google on these papers as well. All you do is google search the name of the paper and then enter their website by clicking on "Translate this page". All the articles will then be in English.

www.cyprusweekly.com.cy

Cyprus Weekly is also a good read. It is only published on Sundays and is in English.

All these papers that I mentioned are definately much more interesting than Cyprus Mail.

Cyprus Mail is only good to read if you want a laugh and is not a paper which is generally taken too seriously.

Those papers also cater to the tastes of those that just want an insight to Cypriot culture, arts, sports, entertainment, classifieds etc etc. There is something there for everyone.

The Cypriot media is not extremist in nature but they do encourage a lot of debate and every newspaper has it's own unique angle, which tends to make it more interesting.

To be totally honest, I think that the Cypriot print media is much better than the Australian print media. There is plenty of variety. Australian print media tends to follow American foreign policy and propoganda a little too much and hence we do not really get a true picture as to what is happenning in this world apart from what they are willing to brainwash the people with.

......So back to the original question -

Most things you can get but -

Big coats and jumpers - we threw so many away and really wished we had them for the colder than expected months

Egg hole punch

Cookbooks (although can get them from Amazon)

Light fittings you like, it's difficult to find tasteful and not expensive fittings, lamp shades are also hard to find

Decent furniture that isn't either too modern and expensive or complete tat

I wish I'd brought a huge dog bed as I just can't find one big enough for our 50kg bundle of fun

I am being very picky here though coz who cares about the trivial things when you get to live in Cyprus! 8)
