Boomers it's the history of the island neither belongs to you or me. It belongs to the island, which belongs to all Cypiriots. If it read " 9000 years of TC or Turkish" history I would understand your point .

History is made my people Umit..not land. If it was just the land making the history then it would be a geological event.

Ancient names and cities such as Salamis, their stories told by Herodotus were built by people.

Most of thes names are now anathema to the regime in the north. They survived 1000's of years as your tourist guide boasts only to have thje names and history switched now by the allmighty icons of the 21st century denktash and talat.....

Greeks never existed in the north....it was a rumour.

THe people on this land are the inheritors of it's history . Since people come and go , I like to think that the history is part of the land. It's just a way of looking at things.

When it comes to your point of name changes Salamis , Belapais and many more relics did not have their names changed. I for one have never heard anyone say that Salamis was built by Turks.

All village names were changed after 74 even villages whose entire population were TC's.

This looks like another one of those articles that is poorly translated - looking at the title should give us a clue.

Just imagine how we will interpret the new 'solution/plan/constitution/whatever' if it ever gets as far the people ?

Thinking about it, I wonder how the new 'plan' gets written ? Is it in English to begin with and then translated to Greek/Turkish ? And if so, who checks the translation/interpretation ?

And what about the meetings between the two sets of communities ? Do the GC/TC groups get together and speak in English, or their 'native' langage which is then translated ? Or are they all very clever and multi-lingual ?

Just a thought

Yeeeesssss Umit07, that is true, as well as changing the names of the Turkish Cypriot people also. Their whole identity was taken away from them with the name they grew up with and were forced to take on something that was totally "foreign" to them.

I think Hitler did something similar with the Jews. Their names were taken away and instead were given numbers, tattooed to their arms and were forced to wear a "Jewish label" on their clothes, so that everyone would know that they were Jews. Not as drastic in the "TRNC" I know, but the same principle applied. In the north, the attempt was design to mix the TC's in with the settlers, so that it would be difficult to tell them apart. One more "brilliant" idea by Denktash.!!!

What do you say to that.??

ADANA - A senior level tourism official from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) said Tuesday the TRNC plans to host every Turkish citizen in TRNC at least once.

Speaking in southern province of Adana as part of the TRNC Promotion Days, Turgut Muslu, a high level official from the TRNC's Ministry of Economy and Tourism, said that TRNC's tourism promotion began in the Turkish capital of Ankara and continued in Kayseri.

"We are working to help develop TRNC's tourism. We want to make sure that every Turkish citizen visits the TRNC at least once. We want to offer our cuisine, hospitality, customs, traditions, 9,000 years and natural beauties to Turkish citizens. There are many reasons as to why the Turks should choose the TRNC for their vacations. We share the same language, religion, monetary currency, and traditions. The TRNC is only 65 kilometers away from Turkey. Turks can enjoy the beaches of TRNC after a flight of only 1-2 hours", Muslu said.

hmmm ...interesting...I wonder which hillbillies he was addressing

The tourism official is clearly bonkers. I wouldn't take this as a political issue at all. He's on the whacky-baccy. I suggest he spends a few minutes looking at income inequality, average wage levels, poverty levels in Turkey and then he'll realise the sheer daftness of his ambition.

This "Tourist Minister" must have gotten the idea from, that every Muslim must visit Mecca once in their life time.

I give him credit for thinking, but what he seems to forget is, if the Turks in Turkey doesn't already know that the "TRNC" exists after so many years, then they never will no matter how much the "TRNC" is advertised. It is also possible that the Turks do not care to mix with the TC's in the first place, when there are hundreds of locations for them to visit in Turkey, assuming they can afford it. Lets be honest for a minute shall we people. The Turks from Turkey are not very keen on TC's, and it is also fair to say, that the TC's are not too fond of the Turks in general, and this guy expects the Turks to come and spend money in the "TRNC" that they don't have. I would not be surprised, that many Turks more than likely resent the fact that all the civil servants in the "TRNC make more money than their own, specially when the money comes from their Tax Liras.

Firstly I'll answer Kikapu's question.

I personally don't endorse the name changing of all the villages. I think it was just a part of "Turkifying" the island after 74'. During the time of plunder shortly after 74' , Turkey and Denktas thought they could partition the island for good. So it was all part of the process .

My fathers family is one of the four root families of Pergamos , there is an entire street in the village which every person on it is a relative of mine. After 74' they changed it's name to Beyarmudu but nobody in the village really uses the new name  .

Kikapu the situation in Cyprus is NOT anything you can compare to in any other part of the world. I still think that GC's were mostly to blame for the events which led to 74'.

I think I answered DT's question aswell.

Totally agree with you CopperLine...The tourism board has lost the plot..these people don't have money to feed themselves never mind spending on holidays..(same as the Syrians they expect as tourists)
