Representatives of Turkish Cypriot and Syrian tourism sector have come together at workshop to seek cooperation opportunities.
In a welcoming address, the Minister of Economy and Tourism Erdogan Sanlidag said it is pleasing to see that relations between the TRNC and Syria have been improving in the fields of economy, tourism, education and culture since the start of ferry services between the two countries.
Speaking on behalf of representatives of Syrian tourism industry, Zeina Tabbaa, the director of Syrian "Tabbaa Travel and Tourism", said that Syrian tourism and travel agencies were ready to cooperate with their Turkish Cypriot colleagues.
For his part, deputy-Prime Minister Foreign Minister Turgay Avci pointed out that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus has been suffering under an international isolation.
He said that the two countries initiated good relations in economy, trade, tourism, education, culture and sports, expressing the hope that the existing cooperation between the NC and Syria will continue.
During the workshop at the Acapulco Hotel, representatives of Syrian and Turkish Cypriot tourism industry watched cinevision shows promoting Syria and the TRNC and exchanged views on ways of strengthening their cooperation.
Last night, Mr Avci gave a dinner in honor of Syrian tourism operators in Girne.
In a short address at the dinner, the Foreign Minister said bilateral relations have been established with Syria after a break of 30 years, adding that these relations will have an impact on all sectors.
He said `nobody can stop us from opening to the world`.
