November 10, 2006: On his visit to the Vatican, the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Tassos Papadopoulos presented His Holiness the Pope with a book of photographs showing churches in the Turkish-occupied northern sector that had been destroyed or converted into hotels and bars by the occupation regime. On seeing the photos the Pope was heard to say 'So much destruction, it is incredible.' (Deutsche Presse-Agentur, Ansa news agency.)
