especial at this new times with this media no one belives .
with media we are learning new things everyday . İt is very easy now to obtain neutralized informations from none parties.

This coming from Halil is hilarious LOL

Turks are the champions of history distortion. They barely know about the history of Cyprus before the Ottoman oppression. They dont even know much about it now. How many Turkish Cypriot youth still think there are only 'two peoples' in Cyprus?? When Armenian Cypriots and Maronite Cypriots where here way before their poverty inflicting forefathers.

As long as you keep saying ....Cyprus is Greek ..... no one can remember the Maronite's or Armenians .......... you will keep arguing with TC's ....
simplest way .
TC's knows very well about Maronite's and Armenians don't worry !
Go to Kormacit village and see how they are knowing each other .See how full is the Maria's place in the Kormacit with TC's . How they return back to their homes and repairing and building new houses at their village .How freely they are playing bouzouki .

Yes that is why we have an Armenian Cypriot in a top position in the Cypriot government.

FACT! Turkish Cypriot youth dont know fuck all about Cyprus and the ones I have spoken to dont even know what Maronites are. Your people are so brainwashed by nationalism that you dont bother to educate yourselves properly. Come to London or just look at the ATCA website to see how much of a joke the Turkish Cypriot diaspora are with regards to knowing about history.

I agree many Turkish Cypriots in the UK are a disgrace and I personally feel better if when asked, they referred to themselves as TC or Turk ... but not just Cypriot!

That’s the way I like you Bir! Getting involved in the REAL issues of facts & figures instead of playing the Mahatma Gandhi from a distance because once you start studying the facts you’ll soon feel too embarrassed to play your “Poor little Turkish Cypriots” record again…

Now here’s YOUR challenge seeing that you consider this piece to be “propaganda”…

1571 The Ottomans massacre the population of Famagousta and flay the Venitian captain Marcantonio Bragadin alive after breaking their word of honour. The Cypriot Christian population is subjected to slavery. Since Christians are forbidden from even stepping onto the socio-political ladder Cypriot society becomes a virtua l theocracy.

Why don’t you “fix” this entry by summarizing these two paragraphs from the Library of Congress to replace the “bad” entry:

Throughout the period of Venetian rule, Ottoman Turks raided and attacked at will. In 1489, the first year of Venetian control, Turks attacked the Karpas Peninsula, pillaging and taking captives to be sold into slavery. In 1539 the Turkish fleet attacked and destroyed Limassol. Fearing the ever-expanding Ottoman Empire, the Venetians had fortified Famagusta, Nicosia, and Kyrenia, but most other cities were easy prey.

In the summer of 1570, the Turks struck again, but this time with a full-scale invasion rather than a raid. About 60,000 troops, including cavalry and artillery, under the command of Lala Mustafa Pasha landed unopposed near Limassol on July 2, 1570, and laid siege to Nicosia. In an orgy of victory on the day that the city fell--September 9, 1570--20,000 Nicosians were put to death, and every church, public building, and palace was looted. Word of the massacre spread, and a few days later Mustafa took Kyrenia without having to fire a shot. Famagusta, however, resisted and put up a heroic defense that lasted from September 1570 until August 1571.

If you read my post carefully,GR,I did not say these events did not happen...I illustrated why I considered their presentation as sheer propaganda...I stand by my analysis...Why don't you tell me why there was not one photo of the TC victims of the events in 1963/64 and 1974???
Why don't you tell me why there was no mention of the demand for Enosis, the Eoka,Grivas,Sampson, the Greek junta, the exile of the TCs from government between 1964-74,the pain and suffering the TCs went through (myself inculded) for being treated an non-existant citizens in our own country during that period...I have no intention of rewriting history...But I can spot a propaganda exercise a mile away...

That is the first piece you quoted and labeled as "propaganda" followed by these comments...

they massacre the population....after breaking their word of honour....the Christian population is subjected to slavery....etc

Words used to make maximum impact on the reader assumed to be largely Christian of course...

Then there is the selectively using facts and figures to add to the effect...

So what exactly were you implying?

1. That Cypriots were NOT massacred?
2. That Cypriots were NOT made slaves?
3. That Bragadin was NOT skinned alive? (Did you know his FLEECE filled with straw is still on exhibition in a museum in Venice?)

Whichever way you look at it this link is pure Propaganda...
The most effective aspect is the placing of the horrible pictures on the right column...
Then there is the emotive language used....It talks about this period or that period in neutral terms till it comes to the Ottoman period....Suddenly it is

Ottoman Oppression....doodooodooodaaaaa...

1963-64 Turkish state-sponsored TMT terrorists attack police stations across Nicosia taking 200 people hostage. Turkey attempts to invade Cyprus bombing and napalming civilians and the terrorists together with Turkish commandos seize the Nicosia to Kyrenia main highway. A UN peacekeeping force is set up.

1974 Turkey invades and ethnically cleanses the northern third of Cyprus in the confusion caused by a failed CIA sponsored coup to assassinate the president of Cyprus, Archbishop Makarios.

No mention of the EOKA or the TC victims and casulties,no mention of the Greek Junta (it is the CIA sponsored coup!),Enosis demands, the treaty of Guarantee, the fear the name Sampson inspired in the TCs....and of course no photos at all of the massacred TCs,or those collected in schools and stadiums around the island...

Anyone who takes this link as anything other than sheer propaganda is either totally stupid and ignorant,or is intentionally using it to spread hatred towards the Turkish Cypriots...

Make no mistake about this...I am not saying none of this happened...I am saying it is presented in such a way to evoke only one thing in the reader :hatred against Turks and Turkish Cypriots...I for one will not let this go unchallenged,as it is poisoning the minds of people who ought to be better informed about our bloody history in order to put things in perspective....There are many links from the Turkish site which is sheer propaganda as well, and I find them equally reprehensible...Sites like this do not help us find a just and peaceful solution. The are geared towards creating bitterness, hatred and the desire for revenge....

Here is my post again,GR...I believe it is self explanatory...If you do not want to understand what I am saying,I cannot help you...

It gets very messy and tiring when you enter GR’s realm of facts and figures doesn’t it Bir, and I’m sure I need not push you any further into it to convince you.

I’d like you to take good note that it would only take someone like me 2-3 minutes to write up a “Mahatma Gandhi” piece to impress the feeble minded just from the top of my head, but it takes MANY HOURS and sometimes DAYS of research to put a factual historical article together and present it as neutral as possible for discussion so don't take them for granted thank you...
