Driving standards in Cyprus, are they getting better?

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

As a non-resident I think that for sure in the past year standards have improved, although still quite comical on occasion.

There seems to be a greater police presence on the roads, perhaps this might be a reason?

One thing that is still very noticeable is the difference when I drive a rental car with zed plates and a Cypriot registered car that we keep. Local drivers are much more aggressive towards the rental car.

Or is that my imagination seeing racism where it does not exist?

Here we go, the theme behind the theme ...

Anyway, have you considered it may just be because Zed cars are generally driven slower / tentatively, because the driver may either be taking in a view, not familiar with left-side driving, not familiar with the rental car or they are not sure where they are going ...

Plenty of rational reasons to mull over first before getting on your moral high-horse......

Oracle can you please try and be objective at times. Criticizing the diabolical driving habits of the Cypriot driver doesn't mean that those criticizing are having a poke , as you seem to think , at Cyprus. The driving is still horrendously awful and damn right stupid. It is criminal that these yobs that go around at excessive speeds in build up areas should get away with it. Lock them up I say or send them to the ...Russian front !!
They are a bloody nuisance utterly unruly and criminally insane.

A few days ago I did the most dangerous thing imaginable and that is to walk along a pavement in CY. It was a lovely evening and I took a stroll of a few hundred yards along a main road in one of the Nic suburbs during which I had to cross a minor road. As ever I looked L and R several times, looked up and down and put my ear to the ground etc etc and started crossing at the same time as some idiot, parked on the main road, decided to burn rubber from a standing start, lost control and only just missing an oncoming car by driving towards me on the side road, so it seemed. Truthfully I had to get out of the way very, very quickly. I am certain that if I hadn't jumped, a bit of me wouldn't be around tonight.

I do hope you were not jaywalking. Don't you know road deaths are caused by pedestrians

Well if this idiot driver had stopped to see if I was alright he/she would have suffered near death by the hands of this particular pedestrian.

99% of zed cars are driven by Brits. We also drive on the left.

For sure I drive no differently in a Zed car than in my own Cypriot registered car. However I am treated very differently on the roads in the rental car.

That is a fact!

Sounds like you have your mind made up!

My original suspicion of the theme within a theme emerging has proven correct. You are a racist.

The least you could have done as a passing reference to objectivity is look within yourself and see if you are not more hesitant driving an unknown car ... but NO .... it must be the racist Cypriots.

Boring bashing! Not interested in transparent racists like you ......

I wish you much mileage in your endeavor to "go around the houses" ...

Only near death??? Unfortunately these arseholes who leave half their tyre tread on the tarmac every time they set off don't think people who use their legs should be allowed to traverse their domain. Fortunately trees and other similar solid objects slowly wipe out these "Richard Craniums." Unfortunately for every one of them who wipes him/herself out there is another that takes its place

Maybe is because I'm Spanish and here the driving is terrible, but after driving a zed car all arround Cyprus for a week I have to say that is not that terrible (I see much worse things everyday in My way to work) and that we had been not mistreated in any way.
All those who think your driving is terrible, jus come to Barcelona and see what happens

I find that hard to believe, but there were suggestions of you being a fabricator in your last thread as I recall. So either no one has dared call you a racist, or you are once again lying?

We gave you the benefit of the doubt being a newbie ... but of all the transparent anti-Cypriot racists that have ever posted you appear to be the most thinly veiled, I do believe ...

I try to instruct racists to cease from this practice, as we are just one race (The Human Race) ... with greater DNA differences as individuals than when placed in "races" ... scientifically you are onto a loser ... there are no races!

So accept Cypriots as being the same as yourself; and learn to live with differences in habits or become a hermit

Very strange!

Ok so are all Cypriots the same (Greeks and Turks) in your eyes?

You seem to me the biggest racist on this forum.

I do not give a toss about a persons race. I take as I find.

Initially I found the general standard of driving hilarious!

Is it my imagination but lately I think that standards have improved?

Or am I just becoming de-sensitised?

For all the good things about Cyprus, driving is not one of them! I have to disagree about the improvement of driving, in fact I would definitely have to say the opposite as I feel the standards of driving is on a rapid downward spiral! Think you may just be slipping into Cypriot standards if you find driving has improved!
