It sounds a lot Bubbles but it's not. The secret is to eat the same amount as you normally would in a day, but broken down into more meals.

eg 1800 calories a day (for a woman) in 5 meals instead of 3. Easy. 8)

Still seems a lot. A normal weekday pattern for me:

Breakfast (between 7 and 8am) Cereal with skimmed milk, 2 cups of coffee

Lunch (between 1 and 2pm) Salad (ham or tuna usually!) sometimes with cheese (for my calcium) and sometimes with bread/ryvita - no butter!

Dinner (between 5 and 7) varies between a full meal - ie meat and 2 veg, jacket potato or even bangers and mash/ bacon and eggs / pasta/casserole etc! Have to add that as summer encroaches the meals do get lighter - apart from the odd BBQ!

I snack on fruit or carrots/peppers etc and yes, I do drink plenty of water! My downfall is alcohol! :( I am going to make a concerted effort to cut down - blame Cyprus and her wine!!

That's not too bad (if I ignore the bangers, mash, bacon and eggs). BTW even I cheat twice a week. Not really cheating, more like treating.

To be technical, for a minute, the reason I said to break down into 5+ meals instead of 3 is because "grazing" is the best thing for your body.
Your body takes about 4 hours to digest food. Once it goes past this point it starts looking at what else it can consume to feed itself. It will immediately start going for the muscle (lean mass). Spend too long between meals and the body goes into starvation mode and stores calories as fat. This is why breakfast is SO important, because your body has been left for so long overnight without being fed. Breakfast kick starts your metabolism again, so does your first cup of coffee of the morning. I always have full caffeine when I first get into work. Then the rest of the day I will only allow myself decaff.

Born and raised in England, a girl has to have her bangers and mash or bacon and eggs once in a while!

Always have breakfast as I agree this is the most important meal of the day.

I too start with 'proper' coffee but then revert to decaf after lunch! I tell you it is the wine!!

Hey, I'm born and raised in UK too and I love nothing better than a sausage a bacon butty :D

Drink is a problem. I love beer and wine. But I do restrict it to the weekend only. If I lived in Cyp I'd prob drink more because of the climate. Man boobs!!! If a man has these, you can usually blame it on excessive alcohol consumption.

Slight change of shortage: I have not seen Shredded Wheat in any Paphos supermarket for a month now :-)

For weight-reduction, I recommend eating foods that are not only high in fiber, but are also low on the Glycemic Index. Low GI foods make you feel full for a longer period of time. Foods high on the Glycemic Index (like candy bars and simple sugars) lift your blood sugar quickly but then crash.

Also, egg whites - while boring - are a complete protein and fat free. I use them in vegetable dishes that normally call for tofu. I don't know if a lot of the packages of foods in Cypriot markets have nutrition facts on them (which is how it is in the US), but try keeping your intake of "calories from fat" to 10% of your total caloric intake. It is tough stuff.

Due to World food crisis (not guilty! ), I think they need the wheat to make bread. :?

Perhaps they can look into wheat alternatives as a substitute for "Shredded Wheat" ..... like re-cycling other Cereal Boxes!

.... For those of us into home-cooking; paper-shredder machines may become another "must-have" kitchen appliance .....
