..... I'm off for a swim to get the appetite ready for tea-time treats

Yeh, a bloody big lemon drizzle cake :?

Grandma, try something light like a tomato and onion salad (without the olive oil) and sardines or pilchards. Much better for you and tastier, but still light and refereshing on warm days (Make a couple of hours before eating and place in fridge to chill). Slimfast is a gimmick.

Xybadog ... Start a thread on salad / healthy snacks .... please!

Just going with the flow

I like throwing healthy stuff together like avocados and halloumi in pitta etc ... so I have a few up my sleeve .. but since coming to Cyprus I seem to be overwhelmed with food surpluses and I have been sabotaged from my usual simple, small quantity regime.

I love the choice of fresh produce in Cyprus and Greece. It's as nature intended, not "polished" and made to look "pretty" like in the UK. It's raw, natural and, if you like, rustic. The majority of consumers in the UK would stick their nose up at the fruit and veg on show in Cyprus as it is not "visually appealing". This being because they have been used to high level, multi million pound marketing strategies that ensure the products are all similar size, shape, colour and condition. Half the population wouldn't know what a lemon looked like unwaxed. In fact they would probably throw one away thinking it was inedible.

I eat organic everything, as much as possible (certain organic items aren't available here commercially) especially now as the prices are falling. I very, very rarely eat processed food (bleurghhhhh).

Diet in Cyprus...fat chance. The food is to die for here. When we first moved over from Oz, we were in heaven. The food was so full of flavour. It took us a while to be able to eat home grown chickens. The flavour was too overwhelming. The one thing I still can't eat is lamb. For me is has a very strong taste, and the haloumi that has been in the "oro" for a while. That stinks.

Oracle, all this talk of summer food has prompted me to redesign my exercise and nutrition plan. I do it every 4 or 5 months anyway, to save the routine from becoming stagnant.

Average day would be, for example
6.30am 45 mins cardio in Gym
8am Breakfast - 3 egg whites & 1 yolk omellete (with freshly chopped peppers and spring onions)
10am - Porridge oats with semi-skimmed milk
12.30pm - large fresh salad (Cabbage, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber and peppers) with chicken or beef
3pm - sardines or pilchards on toast (wholemeal)
5pm - Gym (weights varying muscle groups) 1 hour followed immediately by 1 protein shake
7.30pm - Steak or Turkey breast with cabbage, broccoli and potatoes

2 litres of water during day as and when.
Evening gym session every other day. 1 hour on bike (outdoors) on evenings not in gym
3 hour cycle ride Saturday.
Sunday - Day Off :D

This is only an average day. Will change very slightly day by day for variety.

You must have a very fit body sir!

 Cannot eat that much and I certainly do not have enough hours (or even the inclination!) in the day to fit in all that exercise! I am walking more now though so now I just have to cut back on the alcohol - but not tonight, I am keeping Terry company

It sounds a lot Bubbles but it's not. The secret is to eat the same amount as you normally would in a day, but broken down into more meals.

eg 1800 calories a day (for a woman) in 5 meals instead of 3. Easy. 8)
